No, because I don't think you can install the shifter on the transmission AND put it back in the trans tunnel, without some serious problems. This is because the crossmember is not removable on the C3's.
You'll have to set it up from above and below, removing the shifter boot and getting underneath to set up the rods and linkages correctly.
C3 4 speed shifters do not bolt to the tranny; they mount on a bracket beside the tranny. AIM shows it and will help you before you crawl under there.
True dat'! I wonder if you could bolt up the whole shebang (shifter, rods, etc) TO the bracket before you mount it to the crossmember? Or would you mount the bracket first and follow up with assembling the shifter, rods, etc?
I'm about to do this really soon, so any answers would be appreciated!
Haven't done one in a while. I think I put the bracket in place unbolted, bolt the shifter with rods attached to it then bolt bracket to cross member, makes it easier to get to all the bolts its very tight working up there. then install rods to trans and adjust.
