Looks like weather/anti-theft shield for the door lock mechanism. The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows how they install. There should be a pair of them; left and right sides.

Upper/inside/rear of door...they fit over the lock mechanism on the inside. Tough to get in there with an assembled door. Most folks throw them away. I, on the other hand, had to find a used one and refurbish it to replace the one that was missing in my driver's door.

I was able to squeeze mine and get it thru the opening and in place. (not easy) There should be phillip head screws in the door to hold it in place.
