1981 fuel issue?
Hi, I just purchased a 1981. It is mostly original and still has the smog equipment. The car cranks and runs great with no hesitation, stumbles or misses. Cranks great hot or cold. It runs great around town and you would never no anything was wrong. The issue is when you floor it it takes off fine but in a few seconds at higher RPM it just fall flat. It dosent miss it just fall flat. It feels like it is completly running out of gas. As soon as you let of the gas pedal and feather it a little it will catch back up and continue to run fine untill you floor it again. Does this sound like a fule pump, filter maybe or carb issue. Dont know much about the C3 so thought this could be a common problem with the 81 model. Any help appreciated. Mike

sounds like it could be either a failing fuel pump, a clogged fuel filter or a clogged strainer in the tank. the easiest thing to do first is the fuel filter in the carb, easy to get to and cheap too. then would be the fuel pump and then the strainer.

Sounds like Quadrabog to me. Secondary plate not opening correctly.
There is a spring on the side that has to be ballanced just right..
Unknown car, go through all the steps for a good tune, see if you can find a local guy to check out that E4ME carb.

Thanks guys I fixed the problem. When I drove the car home after purchase the main wire came loose from the altenator and drained the battery. I noticed after the battery got weak on the way home it would cut out when I gave it a lot of gas. I changed the gas filter and charged the battery yesterday and one of them fixed the problem. Not sure which. Thanks again, Mike
