The first year of an ECM in a Corvette was the 1980 LG4 305. It had a computer feedback carburetor. The 305 had a oxygen sensor(in the exhuast), mixture control solenoid and a throttle positioning sensor(which were all part of the carburetor). They used the same system in the 1981 Corvettes and then in 1982 they went to a more sophisticated computer system when General Motors introduced the crossfire fuel injection system.

I think the HEI module would be considered a chip?
Well, sure, it's a chip of sorts, not ALL chips have to be 16 pin DIPS....
but yes, it has many control and power parts in it's construction....
years ago I met the guy who designed the updated HEI to .com with the 'mainframe'.....he is a Corvette man with a very well done highly modified C3....that is SO light it floats....
