A lot of people say the Kirkland battery from Costco is the best bang for the buck. If you or somebody you know is a member you might want to consider it.
My 1 year old delco battery is only showing 750 cca, but has a bit of trouble starting when the car is really hot. My Discount auto battery lasted 5 years in my 63 before it was replaced with another discount auto battery.
What brand and model do you suggest ? Thanks Jerry
I use Interstate, NAPA,and Exide that are a few....The brand is not as important as the CCA amps...... there all rated the same way...any that has at least 850 cranking amps will do a good job for you....Shop where they sell many batteries or someplace they sell a lot of them so you won't get a 1/2 used up battery sitting on a shelf........i
Go in and ask for a battery that services your year,,,whatever the brand,,,I prefer a group 34, but its a little larger and taller than 24`s....if I remember correctly..or its the other way around...Whatever, dont buy a cheap battery {low cranking amps}
If your not battery conscious this should help
My moto, buy as good as you can for chwap as you can....
My 1970 has an Optima Red Top, I use the dual terminals for accessories. I'm sure other batteries had this feature as well, but it was included with the purchase and met my needs considering these batteries are popular for custom stereo installations.
If you just need a battery to run the car, I'd probably go a cheaper route.
Costco batteries "were" a great buy and lasted a long time (6+ years). They are now, while still $$ competitive, a lot more than they use to be - but I think all have increased in price. 2 purchases in the last few years haven't lasted too long - one failed in 2 years that was even on a Tender. My last 2 batteries, one for the '67 and another for my '85 Blazer have been from Advance Auto (Gold series) bought with coupon codes.
I have had the best luck with interstate batteries. Just replaced the factory motorcraft battery in Wife's 2010 Mountaineer that we bought new... They sure don't last long with all the gizmo's in new cars.
Best battery at Advance Auto Parts is about $112.00 for an '81 Vette. Order online and pick up in store within an hour, using discount code "TNT41", and save $40.00.
I have an Optima red top in my 70 BB, 34 series IIRC and am on the second one in my 68 Mustang. The first one lasted 7+ years. Haven't had any problems with them. In the rest of the family cars I use NAPA. If you're a AAA member bring your card and get a discount also 7% on everything I think
buy the largest battery that will fit the battery box....24 or 34 series and the highest cranking amp available {ie} at least 850
I agree. Mine is an Exide battery marketed in Canada by a company called Canadian Tire. It spins the engine very well.
-875 cold cranking amps
-1050 cranking amps
-125 minutes reserve capacity
FWIW, according to the "internet," the majority of car batteries are created by 3 manufacturers - Delphi, Exide and Johnson Controls Industries. Delphi makes some EverStart models sold in Walmart and ACDelco. Johnson Control Industries makes Duralast seen in Autozone stores, Diehard - sold in Sears, Kirkland - the Costco brand, Advance Auto Gold, Motorcraft - which Ford sells, some of the EverStarts, and Interstate. Exide makes Exide batteries, Champion, Napa and even a % of the EverStart batteries.
