Does anyone have plans for makeing the tool to flare washers on T/A bushings? I know this tool can be bought but Im on a budget and I can probably make it much cheaper than buying one. Thanks, Frank. (for a 1978)
See if this helps, part way down the page give you an idea
Biggest issue is compressing the bushings to the 2.20-2.23 dim and holding it there then flare the sleeve (45 deg) to hold it in place
like mooser said you need a compression fixture to hold the bushing compressed while you flair it.i made this out of a victaulic saddle and a pipe flange.you can improvise here with what ever is available to you.i used a busted 45* cone off a flairing tool to bang home the flair.
Thanks fo the replys. Do polyurathane ( am I correct in thinking poly doesnt have to be compressed) work ok here or should I stick with rubber? Its just a street car,no track racing or any thing like that. Frank.
The whole poly vs rubber had been beaten to death.
Some say it evolution, some say it's snake oil, required, not needed, too hard, squeaks, solution to a problem that didn't exist. never go back, never again
Personally I wouldn't choose poly in this location, (on a street car)
The trailing arm not only moves up and down, pivoting on that bushing, which poly is great at. It also twists (slightly) as it moves through the arc (depending on how worn the yokes are ) which poly is not very good at.
