Default 1975 Door Panel Help

What's the best way to attach the door handle opening trim on the inside of a 1975 aftermarket doorpanel? There's that one nipple at the front most part (when viewing from the back) that is kind of like the proverbial "hanging chad".

Thanks.

I'm assuming that you are trying to install the lock plate from your 'old' panels and that you have ground-away (or cut-off) the swedged head on the retainer posts. If that's your situation, you can either drill & tap a small hole into those retainer posts and use screws to hold it in place, or you can use some JB Weld stick epoxy to create new "heads" on those posts. I chose the latter approach about 7 years ago and have had no problem with them coming loose.

The head on the retainer posts is still there...and I did drill a very narrow hole about 1/4 inch into the post. Am a little skeptical about splitting that post if I try to screw in even a very tiny screw.

I'll try the JB Weld. Thanks.

I agree that you shouldn't just drive a screw into a drilled hole in those posts. But, if you tap it for the screw there should not be a problem; just don't torque it down very much. You could put a little blue Loctite on the screw threads to help retention.

But, using JB Weld, and forcing some of it down into those drilled holes, will retain it just fine.
