Default '74 Stingray - original price

Hi everyone, I'm hours away from buying my first Corvette on ebay, looking at a '74 Stingray!

But! In Denmark, we've got some registration tax which is 40% of original value, Since I was born in 92 I have no idea what it used to cost!
Can anyone help me??

Thanks!

Very nice car but that's a lot of money for an L48- has the market recovered that much?

Edit- before you push the buy it now button, just some observations-

the car has been repainted

non-functioning A/C

incorrect wheels

incorrect replacement rear bumper

incorrect shift ****

NOT saying it's a bad car- just that for 22K+ I'd expect a 'perfect' car.

$6,000 is at least $30,000 today.
In 1974 my house was maybe $30K, now it is.... A lot.

Hmm. No belt on the A/C compressor. For that kind of money, everything should be in working order. The car shows good, though. Wish mine looked that good.

It does look nice, but to the trained eye, there are flaws, which a previous poster has mentioned.
Non-working A/C is huge, to me, not worth the price unless all works.
BTW...the YJ8 rims on the car were actually an option for the 74, the first year those rims were offered, but there were NO cars sold with them. Technically they are original rims for that year.

Almost. The YJ8s came out in 73 but were quickly put on hold (as few as four cars). For a brief period they could be purchased over the counter at Chevrolet dealers but, that too, was stopped. You actually could not get them at all for 74 and 75.

How come the convertible base model was less expensive than the coupe? Now a days used or new, verts are always more expensive. Was this just a last ditch effort to get people back interested in the rag tops?

And the '73 YJ8 wheels were different in many details from the later release.

It looks like a very nice 1974 albeit with some "incorrect" parts as noted above. But that does not bother me. It is a dealer price but if you like the car go for it. I just noticed it is not sold yet??

I noticed that too. And I bet you're right on the discount for the verts. If you could line up the convertible production for the C3's from 68 to 75, would you see a steady decline in production?

I looked at the Rogers Corvette specs for each year and came up with this:

69: 42% (16,633 verts, 22,129 coupes).
70: 38% (6,648 verts, 10,668 coupes).
71: 32% (7,121 verts, 14,680 coupes).
72: 24% (6,508 verts ,20,496 coupes).
73: 16% (4,943 verts, 25,521 coupes).
74: 17% (5,474 verts, 32,028 coupes).
75: 12% (4,629 verts, 33,836 coupes).

Hi dv,
It looks like it MIGHT be a nice car.
NO pictures of the chassis, running gear, engine stamp, vin tag, or trim tag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the pictures the dealer chose to include in the ad it looks to me like he's hoping the paint will sell the car to someone who isn't aware of what really should be looked at on a 40 year old car.
????
Regards,
Alan

If you look at the fact book for the 74 corvette, on the 2nd page under option, it says there that they were an option for that year, but none were sold.

Good luck!
