Just finished a little snowy day project. Took the old body panel I found upstairs in the garage and cleaned it up and used some compound to smooth it up and get rid of some small scratches. Turned out looking pretty great. Now I just need to get my hands on the front half of a rocker panel to finish it off.
As found
After a good washing and compounding
In a display cabinet that my grandpa built, doubt the boss will let my leave it there in the living room but we will see. I also have Dads race helmet that matches this panel back at my Mom's house that will go in here as well along with photos and whatever else I find.
Neat car..and especially with the tie in to your Dad.
I love project cars..and going thru all of those items in the garage, would be high on my list of favorite things to do.
Good luck.

it was very difficult for me to even hold a few of my father's belongings a year later.

Awesome story that I just got a notice about. I do remember your Dad although our NCCC active days did not overlap much. There is an email circulating amongst a number of us who ran NCCC back then who will also remember him. shoot me your email and I'll cc you on that.
Bruce Wentzel
I got the same email as Bruce and just sent you a welcome message.
I used to race with Charlie in SSA (Super Stock A) with a 63 big block in NCCC.
Had a lot of fun together! Grattan, Adrian International even the streets of Whitehall.
Jim
Great to hear from a couple guys that knew Dad back in his racing days. Jim sent an pm to me explaining some of the things that are going on with the engine in my car so that was great. Hopefully more people that knew him from the NCCC will pop in.
Very sad about your pops. Hopefully this will be an enjoyable adventure for you and your family...Im selfishly very excited to see where it takes you! Best of luck

Thank you, I'm looking forward to the journey ahead. There's a ton of work needed to organize everything.
I went to a meeting with with greendot and badzr-1 and met a couple other guys that raced with my Dad back in the day. It was good to meet some guys that remembered him.
From what they were saying the 68 was originally a 427 either 425 or 435 hp car. Dad added the L88 heads, intake and possibly cam. Good to get some clues as to what has been put into the vette over the last 4 decades.

Haha I was wondering when people would start asking those questions. The seats are also incorrect for a 68, which I think works better with the racer theme anyways since they work better with multi point seat belts. The front clip and doors also aren't 68s either. The front clip does make me a little sad because I love the 68 vents.
Originally the car was red on red so the entire interior has been ripped out and replaced at some point. Dad never cared much about having it accurate, he just had it however he wanted it. It also makes fixing her up easy because I'm not going for ncrs accurate, I'm going for hell of a lotta fun to drive and show off.

No enjoy the car.take advantage of all the free information on the forum. No one has any financial gain in helping you so take advantage. Also before you start tearing this thing up or down find out as much as you can.You could possibly have a 1/2million $ car in your hands.

As per my usual check-ins I haven't gotten a thing done with this old lady yet. Michigan's harsh winter took a toll on my parents property so I need to clean up a couple downed trees and half trees before anything can be done. Also need to find a home for my dad's old flat bed wrecker that's blocking our garage bays so I can get this girl into the main bay.
I know what you mean. I've been working the project into Spring clean-up chores around my house.....one day on house chores/one day on Vette project/Repeat schedule......
I wish I could do that. I'm about a 50 mile round trip from my vette and the wife hates me going over there too much so that makes it even harder lol. If it was out in my garage I could at least putz around on things but a very small one car garage would make a restore almost impossible. I may just have to pull parts off and bring them home to start working on them.
Yeah it may come to that soon lol. I'm headed over to my parents in a little bit so I may pop out and take some more pics of the 68 and post them here.
