If it is something you want to do, do it. I used to go to the shows all the time and I have won my fair share of trophies and my car is certainly not a trailer queen. I needed to go as I was just to critical of my own car it's nice to have people say nice things about your car. I have since gotten all of that out of my system and now I just really enjoy driving my car. Today I just turned 100K miles and I got the pictures to prove it. It's just something fun for me not worried what others think.
You guys make me feel better by clean I mean I don't have the fancy chrome valve covers or bumpers I do wash it on a regular basis car is clean I'm already got my room for the Woodward classic cruise on Michigan can't wait to go plus hope to do a few get togethers here in my neck of the woods Ontario
Agree, we go and have fun and usually the show proceeds go to a worthy charity. We get to visit and talk with other Corvette folks and at the open shows all sorts of people. I always learn a lot and maintain low expectations about winning anything although we have won a few. I do try to make a showing by waxing, detailing, and cleaning. No matter what you are driving, waxing, detailing and cleaning is cheap money and shows that you are proud of your ride!
A couple of years ago the tread seperated on my rear passenger side 275 60/15. Tore the inner fender and all of the lower rear panel off. Got out the black duct tape and cardboard, made me a lower fender while waiting for the parts to arrive and still went to the show that weekend. I had a good time, showed off the pictures off the damage and talked to more people who (believe it or not) never noticed the back untill I showed them.
Greetings from Long Branch NJ,Americas first seashore resort and 7 time US summer capital....our 19th annual car show with all proceeds going to charity is set for June 16th on the L.B. oceanfront....we draw close to 300 vehicles each year and give out over 50 judges choice trophies....its also a good summertime meet and greet with the beach and Atlantic ocean only steps away and your car would be welcomed at our event.... because a car is not 100 point does not disqualify it from winning an award at our event....take your car and have fun.

Think of cars shows or cruise nights as a gathering of people that enjoy their as well as your hobby. I get the same pleasure looking at a professionally turned out show queen as I do looking at a newbie's first attempt to personalize his pride and joy. Despite what is perceived by many the majority of people, from all walks of life, attending these gatherings are fun people who are looking to see, share and learn. That includes over the top venues such as Pebble Beach or Amelia Island.
The best shows are shows that do not tolerate arrogance or disruptive behavior. If you're a pain in the butt with a chip on your shoulder please stay away.
While it's always a pat on the back winning a trophy rewarding you for your work and presentation it is the last reason I attend these fun shows.

There will be some idiots who smirk that your car isn't as nice as their's. So what? Most attendees just like to look at whatever cars are showing and enjoy it for what it is.
I have seen folks who brought their "beater" to the party...without ever washing it. That, IMO, is in 'bad taste' for a car show.
I agree. I go to shows with my 74 Coupe,it is nice to get an award, just in appreciation of the time, money and effort it takes to keep these Vettes on the road, but the real joy I get out of a show is watching kids and even adults light up when I let them sit inside and see that big smile on their faces, nothing like a Corvette Smile!
I can't add much to all the excellent comments already posted on this thread. I also love to see cars with a few miles and enjoyed as they were meant to be. I say give her a wash and maybe a wax and off you go. If you're prepared to have a good time, you'll probably have one.
All you have to do is show up,it was said most of the local shows support some local charity, If trophies are handed out, clean cars generally win something, most give a nice T shirt when you register. You are not competing with "professional" builders, you can please plenty of spectators with what you have, and you may influence some younger person to follow your lead.
