I just purchased a 1968 with 78,000 original miles on it, its an original L79 4spd car and all the numbers are correct. It recieved a new Maroon paint job, carpet, top and clutch a couple of years ago - other than that its pretty much original. my question is it has a BB hood. So here we go, the story goes some L79 cars were shipped with BB hoods due to a shortage of regular small block hoods? is this Fact or Fiction?
BEAUTIFUL car, nice find! wrong hood, but it looks good! Just curious, did seller claim that the hood was original, do you know the history of the car? sweet ride, Rick

Thanks for the comments! I was told the car came from Oregon where it sat for a long time before being purchased and brought up to Vancouver. The seller told me the hood story because he was told the hood story and so on.. it also came with the original vinyl covered hard top, its missing the spare tire carrier for some reason? the previous previous owner took off the luggage rack but its in great condition so I'll put it back on!
I had all three, stock small block, BB/LT-1, and an L88 hood on my '68. I ended up keeping the BB/LT-1.
Unless your car is totally original I'd keep it the way it is if you like it.
Nice 68 As was said, this was usually confined to the mythical 67 hood story. Never heard it on 68's. Not true on either.
Agreed. The fictional story is normally reserved for '67s, but I guess every seller has his own version of 1 of 1 fantasy tales about what they are selling.

Maybe I'll tell that one regarding my car, too.
We will have to give you a pass since your car is so correct in every other way I actually think the big block hoods look great, regardless of the myths and stories that have arisen.
