Went from long tube headers back to stock manifolds years ago (after tearing one partly off on a raised storm-drain but that's a different story), now considering going part way back to a set of shorty headers.
Looking at the McJack direct fit, good looking unit, pretty pricey especially getting up here in the great white north.
Anyone else running a shorter length header on a big-block they are happy with form, fit and function?
The Corvette cast iron manifold was much better than the passenger car iron manifolds that were basically a single rail. However, good headers were worth 75-100 hp over the stock cast iron manifolds.
Going to a shorty header which isn't much different than the cast iron manifolds will primarily have two benefits - lighter and prettier.
Is that your goal? Or do you want to produce more power?
I have seen 2 big block cars running Sanderson shorty headers with no issues but I have also read that some cars have had very slight issues with clearing the control arm bolts. It seems all these cars vary slightly. What works on one my not work on another. I know this is not what you want to hear because shipping is a problem but I would not buy anybody's if they can't be returned if you have to beat them to get them to fit. Good luck with what ever you decide.
Very happy with my McJack's shorties (small block, though) and Allen's exhaust... They were still pretty pricey even with a Military discount in the States!!!
