I noticed a blue blue coupe just like my 69 parked outside a repair shop in Miami yesterday. Stopped to get a better look and it was a 435HP with auto Trans.
I assume these are pretty rare. I have never seen one in person. It was an L71 with side pipes, manual brakes, power steering, TI and Leather. Odd options.
Paint was presentable, but looked older and needed some touch ups. What are these cars going for today? Must be a good stump puller.
Chevrolet claims that there were 255 of the heavy duty "CY" coded TurboHydramatic 400s installed in Corvettes in 1969. There is a letter from GM which is where the production number came from (I saw the original letter many, many years ago... It's real). This would include all of the solid lifter big block applications so the actual split over L-71s, L-89s, L-88s, etc., is unknown. Unfortunate issue with these cars was that a 3.36 rear was the highest numerical ratio that you could get.
While they are rare, they aren't as valuable as a comparable manual transmission car... Another case where "rare" and "valuable" are mutually exclusive.
