Default initial setting on quadrajet idle mixture screws?

my car is a 68BB, but this is a later model rebuilt rochester...my chiltons says turn them in all the way, and back out 3 turns. is this a pretty good starting point for all the quadrajets? seems like it is running a bit rich, sometimes "coughs" a little fuel out the carb when i turn it off..(no air cleaner in place while tuning) thanks, Rick

1-1/2 turns out usually works for me, sometimes 2 at the most.

I usually start at two and go from there.

Where you end up depends on your cam, static CR, and how large the idle mixture restrictions, idle tube restrictions and idle down channel restrictions are.
