Default 68 w/502 convertible value

Apologizing in advance, because I hate it when someone asks these kind of questions, but there is a dearth of info on this subject.

I've found an out of state 68 convertible 4spd, appears to be a nice restoration (le mans blue/blue). I'm still getting details, but I just found out it has a crate 502, but otherwise basically stock.

What would be a generally fair price to pay for this car? I know 68's generally are worth a little less, but since it's an engine transplant, I don't want to overpay for a car that might be hard to get rid of either.

Thanks

Tough to do without pics and mileage. You'd be surprised at the stuff these guys pick up in the pics! $18k to $22K are my thoughts and that's assuming there's an aftermarket stereo, rims and AC. Totally bone stock interior, stock wheels and comes off like a vintage 68' correctly restored 'vert, you'd add a bit more. What are they asking for it? Reasonable? Outrageous and no friggin' way? Too cheap to believe? That helps with the buyers intent too.

What's the seller asking? "Fair" may not have anything to do with it. Based on what little we know, it's a 40+ year old used Corvette without the original engine.

...I know 68's generally are worth a little less...
You just managed to **** off all us 68 owners on the Forum.

It was supposedly restored 5 years ago, yet only has 17,200 miles. Not sure why you'd restore a car with that low of miles.. Looks stock, except for an "L88" style hood. 10 ft. away pics look good, no engine pics. I asked for those and chassis shots.

He said it's non-negotiable at $28k, but that includes shipping. Seems a tad high to me.

He also wants to the the transaction through Amazon.

Agreed, it is high and even if it came down somewhat on price, I'd still have it inspected or go look at it my self. Everything is for sale these days and there's a lot of toys on the market. Non-negotiable spells 'hard time' transaction to me and that doesn't include the strange Amazon transaction request.

Agreed on the 17K miles? Huh? I'm betting 117K miles, because a 17k mile early C3 qualifies as a 'Survivor' even five years ago. I call BS on the 17K too. I can see why you're concerned. The color is great, but I'd bet you can easily find something in the price range you want. I'd pass, unless the car was talking at ya' and you had to have it (BTDT!)

Does it look like these.

Hello,

The asking price is $26,544, please note this price doesn't include shipping taxes, for an accurate cost provide me with your zip code or full address. It is located in Canada, as I recently moved here with my job. Please note it is still registered in the United States so there will be no import taxes or additional fees to pay. The car is registered on my name and the title is clear (no lien). It is in great condition, no dents or scratches. It was always garaged and the regular maintenance was done in time. It wasn't involved in any accident and has never suffered any kind of damage. Also this is a non-smoker car.

I had a buyer offering $29,000 and I've lost about 2 weeks waiting for him to pay just to find out in the end that his loan wasn't approved. I've lowered the price because I'm in desperate need of cash, so if you don't need a loan you can have it. I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!

I want to use Amazon Payments for closing this deal. If you are not aware of how they work you should know that they will allow you to test drive and inspect the car before me receiving any money. You will have a 7 days inspection period to decide whether you want to keep it or not before they release the funds to me.

I look forward hearing from you.

John

Hello,

I'm selling this beautiful 2008 Cadillac CTS Base because my daughter is in hospital, is very sick and I need money for treatment. I'm under enormous time pressure cause I need to sell it fast, before 11th of November that being the reason for selling it so low. My husband and I divorced last month, after the divorce I was awarded the car. It is in immaculate condition, non-smoker, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident... Clear title. The total price is $12,895 including delivery and handling to your address. It is located in ______ where I recently moved with my job.

I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so if you intend to apply for a loan or financing please do not reply to this message.

The transaction will be managed by Amazon Payments for our own protection as they act as a neutral third part. Amazon Payments policy is safe & advantageous for both of us: they will keep the money until you inspect/test the car (you have 5 days for inspection) and in the mean time, offers me the guarantee that you have the amount needed to buy it and you will pay it once you received and accepted it. If the car is not in same condition as I said you will ship it back on my expense and Amazon Payments will send you a full refund. But I assure you won't be the case.

Get back to me and let me know what you decide. Thank you for your time and interest.

God bless you and your family

Hello Mark!
I appreciate that you contacted me. First let me say that the Chevrolet Corvette is available for $28,000.
One of the cleanest Chevrolet Corvette for sale anywhere. 1968 with only 17200 miles. A Chevrolet Corvette with a 427 4-speed convertible in wonderful condition, having just had a frame-off restoration, The interior is newly outfitted in the same Le Mans Blue, while on the outside it is fitted with a new black convertible top, The chrome looks perfect plus many many more features. One of the best all around driving cars you can buy. A Totally Rust, Corrosion And Flood Free Vehicle.Never been in any accidents.Clear title.
Where are you located?
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate ask.

Best Regards

Hello Mark.
I would like to thank you for your interest in buying my car and also to clearly some things first of all. The car was fully restored 5 years ago. It has a 502 cubic inch GM crate motor. No extra parts. I'm the owner. Clear title under my name. Private seller. Do you need more pics?
I know it's been advertised in few areas but the car is in Springfield, OH. I had it advertised through a brokerage company that is why it was posted in several places. Crazy for his commission...I would like to know from the beginning if you are really interested in purchase, so i can stop negotiating with potential buyers.
My final price is $28,000 with shipping/handling included and it is not negotiable because the car is perfect condition. For shipping I will use a voucher.
The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job, so I decided to use the Protection Program offered by Amazon Payments.
This service will offer you:
-Secure & safe payment method only by Bank transfer
-Inspection period for buyer (7 days for inspection with the car at your location)
-Shipping company is created by a local contractor.
-The car will come with all documents (clear title, bills of sale, car’s manual)
So if you agree with what i stated above and you have the funds, i am ready to explain to you all the details regarding the
payment method - inspection period - shipping process and all about this deal.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hmm, same pressure technique, similar language w/regard to Amazon. Refers to his own car as if he was a dealer, and refers to the car as a "Chevrolet Corvette". Odd..

I think I'll pass.

Thanks everyone.

Hi abp,
The wording and choice of descriptive language in these quotes make me suspicious of a scam of some sort!
I think you're wise to 'pass'!
Anyone else?
Regards,
Alan

Just like the 67 BB Vette located in Prince George BC for 18K but the ad was in a Denver paper.
A NCRS buyer contacted me as I live in BC. Just full of holes regarding the sale of the car and when I got a pic from a friend who lives there of the address where the vette was supposed to be and it was an Old folks home. The picture of the vette was blueish and sitting on a 10 acre lot with new housing. My friend bought a house in Prince George and it is a 2 level house and there was 2 feet of snow. The seller said it can be driven out????? and No huge acreage....like that in PG. Seller didn't even get his facts straight when selling the car and its location.
Also got a pic of the tags riveted to the frame but the frame was yellow. Beautiful Blue car but with a yellow interior frame??
So if it is too good to be true it is. Amazon Payment???? How about Google payment!!!

Default Yep, it's a scam

Check out this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...post1583415311

"Chad W Brown". Even uses the same name, and exact same wording except it's a 66', and instead of Ohio, it's SFO.

Here's what he just wrote me (it's a coincidence the guy in the above thread and I have the same name.)

OK Mark,
Let me know when you are ready to buy. Pics attached. Let me explain you how this process work.
If we decide to proceed with this transaction, i will have to contact Amazon Payments and provide them all the necessary information, so they can start the process right away.
Give me your full name (and i need your real name because this is the name i will use for the transfer of the title) and your shipping address (where do you want to receive the car)
You will receive a notification (invoice) from Amazon Payments shortly after that, with all the instructions to follow and the invoice as well.
Payment
Regarding the payment you will be instructed to deposit the money to an Amazon Payments Bank account and they will secure it until you get the car.
Inspection
You will have a 7 days for inspection period so you can make sure that it is the car that you saw in the pictures. If you find the car unsatisfactory at the end of the
7 days inspection period, you have the option to return it to me at my expense and get a refund from Amazon Payments in 24 hours after they are notified about your decision.
The final decision to buy or not the car will be after the 7 days with the car at your home.
Shipping
As soon as i will have the confirmation from Amazon Payments that the funds have been deposited to their account, i will immediately contact the shipping company regarding the delivery
arrangements so you get the car in maximum 4-5 days. The car will be shipped crated by a local contractor, this is a door to door delivery service, so the car will
arrive at your address, you won't have to worry about picking it up from a dock.
Documents
I will send the car with all the papers and documents(clear title, bills of sale, car's manual). The clear title and the bill of sale will both be signed and they will be
shipped together with the car. Also this car will arrive with all the documentations required for registration and 2x keys.
You decide whether you keep the car or not( hopefully you will be positive as you will love it).
Therefore, if you are determined in buying the car, please sent me an email with your full name and full shipping address to start the transaction with Amazon Payments.
Chad W Brown

My response:

Thanks, Chad.

I prefer to pay in cash.

If you could send me your address, I'll have a buddy in the local Akron field office come inspect it. We both attended the FBI academy together, and he's a corvette enthusiast. I work out of the Austin and San Antonio office.

Send me your info, and we'll take a look.

Thanks.

That email reads as though it was written by a non native speaker of English.

From beginning

"Let me know when you are ready to buy. Pics attached. Let me explain you how this process work."

all the way to the end, "Therefore, if you are determined in buying the car".

I'm not saying that is a bad thing. It just sends up red flags when it comes to scams and emails. It just reads like a translation to me.

Yeah, I tried to buy a Vette a while ago from a guy who said he was in the Air Force. When I said I was Dept of Homeland Security and that I would be in the area to look at it..he never wrote back. Always ask to arrange to come see the car...scammers will go away..quickly.
