I look at this, and my lack of bodywork knowledge makes my blood go to my feet. Its obvious you know what your doing, and that this is "old hat" for you....can't wait to see this turn into an awesome paint job.

You will probably see it in person sometime during the summer. I will bring it to the show at the train station by you.

Are you going to the vette show this Sunday in west Babylon.

Dave body work isn´t all that hard. I think the hardest part is being patient to get the prep work right before putting color on it.

Steve, I'm aiming to go to the show...I had originally planned on it, and then realized that I had a social event to attend at 11:00AM in Merrick. More than likely I will be at the show early and leave in the 10-10:30 ballpark.

While I will assume that your car wont have paint by then, are you going to the show?

The door at the lower corner seems to be tucked in. The top lines up perfect. Any ideas.

I raised the center of the hood up 2 inches to clear the carb.

A couple of pics of my 67 GTO pro street car.

I wanted to get the rear half of the car in epoxy primer today but the weather wouldn´t let me.

Do you mind posting pics of the top and at the front door/fender line... If "all" other areas are perfect, "I've" seen this fixed a number of ways... Seen a 2x4 wedged on the trans tunnel and on the lower door frame with a ratchet strap on the top of the door in an attempt to twist the door frame a touch... I've also seen where folks have "de-bonded" the lower door skin from the door frame and inserted spacers in-between the two and then rebounded the skin and frame... Finally, I didn't attempt the first to ideas, I layered some glass on the outer skin and built up that way... Went 3-5 inches in to ensure a smooth transition...

Many ways to skin the cat, just how much time and effort you want to put into her... Sure you will get many differing opinions in the next few hours ;-)

I was thinking of the frame of the door being bent. I also thought of layering some glass on there. On the GTO the new doors I bought were bent and had to be straightened. I really don´t want to cut and rebond the door skin. I spent all day yesterday lining up the door. The front sat to low in the opening. I had to elongate the mounting holes to get the door to line up in the front.

All I wanted to do was get a decent paint job on the car. My wife thinks there is something wrong with me. I will do something over and over until I get it as near perfect as I can.

Thanks Roger.

You're right, the rest of the door doesn't look bad at all... Did you through new pins and bushings on the door hinges??? Good time to do that while you're working your door gaps...

I probably have a weekend working on my passenger door which had to be built up... Glass, then smooth, put back on the car, check gaps, pull door, glass more, smooth, check, vette panel adhesive, smooth, put door back on, check, glaze, etc... Probably pulled and installed the door 15-20 times!!!

Your's isn''t bad, and I would think it won't be that noticeable (other than by you) especially since you're going black...

Here's what I worked with:

You can see the arrows pointing up and down where I needed to build up (BU)

This is a good pic to see the gap I was trying to build up on the top part of my door...

Laying glass... Probably 70-80% of the glass was blocked off... Glassed twice, VPA twice and then glaze one time...

Gap getting a little better...

Front on shot...

Door has just been sealed before paint/clear...

Not very good views, but here's the door in paint:

Let us know how you proceed...

Roger you are right, I would be the only one to notice it and it would drive me crazy.

I put some fiberglass on it and then feathered it into the door with some plastic. It looks pretty good for the first sanding. I will prime it and block it to see how it comes out.

I thought I had it all done, until I hung the doors.

Yes I rebuilt the hinges.

Some pictures on the progress. All the body work is now done. I drilled the holes for the rear emblem and tailights. I also shot the back and the doors with SPI black epoxy. I did that because epoxy goes on very glossy, like a finished paint job and you can see any imperfections. Just a thin coat. After I saw it needed work on the rear bumper and repaired the bumper I wet sanded it down with 400. Saturday I will spray the whole car with the epoxy then Sunday block sand the car with 400. Hopefully Monday I will get from the front of the doors back painted and cleared. Tuesday I will do the nose. I am doing it separate so I can jack it up to get underneath it.

Can't wait to see it in color. Glad to see you went ahead and worked the door fit again. No one would probably see it, but it would annoy you forever.

I love the look of the molded bumpers on a late C3. I'm sure the purists hate it, but mine have been done that way for thirty years and it looks so clean with straight lines and no seams.

The molded in bumper definitely ads to the look. I can´t wait to see it in color either. When I spray the epoxy it gave a preview. I started out wanting just a nice driver paint job but I knew once I started I would go overboard.

Talking about annoying forever. My GTO, I put quarter skins on it. I welded them on, ground down the welds and did all the plastic work and they were in primer. It bothered me where the seam was, so I cut them off and put 2 new skins on and welded the seam where I wanted to. When I tell people they think I am crazy, but it would have bothered me.

I put black epoxy on it this past Saturday, let it dry until Sunday. Wet sanded with 400 and got the car ready for paint on Monday.

Wiped down the car and put on the first coat of color. Just doing the doors and the rear half today. I have a few things to finish on the nose. Plus I want to jack it up so I will be able to get under it for the center section.

Nothing like spraying with a new gun. I just bought a set of Finishline guns by Devilbiss and they spray great. I used to own a collision shop in the 80´s and have sprayed with some high end guns and these do the job.
