Default Left hand dash removal, what am I missing???

I am trying to remove the left hand dash, speedo/tach cluster in my 70 and it is a nightmare! I dropped the steering column, and managed to get it far enough out to release the tach and speedo cables, but something still has a hold of it, it will not come out enough for me to get to the light bulbs, etc. I need to take it all the way out to service the speedometer. Any help would be appreciated.

Corvette Left Hand Dash Pad Removal Made Easy 1968-1977

The link above should help you. If the tach cable, speedo cable is loose, steering column is out, then the only other thing is the three screws over the top, the center cluster bezel screws on the right side and the outer pad screws in the door jamb.

Hi,
Maybe the dash harness is still in the clips on the tach and speedo.
Maybe the bracket/housing for the courtesy light is hung up on the hood release handle/bracket.
Maybe the small elbow shaped duct for the dash vent isn't releasing.
How far down is the steering column... it needs to 3-4" at least. Is it completely loose at the firewall too?
As the dash panel comes back it also has to be able to drop down.
I'm out!
Regards,
Alan

Great points Alan.

Couldnt get mine out either. In the end I had to pull the column, remove the seat and get in there on my back with the light to free it up. Obviously hung up on something. Hang in there.

Thanks to everyone for all the help. Found several things hanging it up, wiring harness, hoses, wires, etc. I have it out now.

The odometer was not working, and the speedometer makes noise when it is cold. I have pretty good skills, so is this something I can repair, or do I need to send this speedometer out for repair? If forced to send it out, what is the best place for a reasonable price?

Good luck getting it back in. That might be considered even more difficult than its removal .
