I have a 74 Convertible with Goodyear Eagle GT 2's the tires are staggered. I picked up a nail in the rear tire it is on the side just into the tread I plugged it just so I can get it to a tire shop. What should I get for tires? Should I go with the same size tires all the way around or stay with the staggered setup?
You didn't mention what size wheels you are running. With Eagle GT 2's, i'm going to assume stock size wheels. As mentioned before in other threads, RWL tires in this size are becoming scarce. I have P255/60R15's Eagle GT2's on all four corners of my 73. I'm not looking forward to when they will need replacement. Goodrich still makes them, along with a (very) few others. Maybe try a search or others might chime in.
Good luck.
I'm more of a stock size tire guy so I would have the same size all the way around. Just my preference...yours may differ and here's nothing wrong with that.
Yes its the stock size, only one tire is toast but I can't find a Goodyear Eagle 2, so I guess i'm buying 4 tires because having one tire from a different company isn't going to cut it.
I thought I read a post last year that most C3 owners were falling out of favor with staggered tires?
Goodyear eagles are discontinued, along with most 15" tires in our sizes. spend the money and move up to 17 or 18 inch wheels. if you like the staggered look you can do 17 fronts and 18 rears

What is staggered tires?
You can get 225/70s all day long.

if you're not worried about the car looking original and the budget can absorb it. Something to think about.
When mine need replacing from the Eagle GT2 225 70 R 15 tires I will be purchasing BF Goodrich 255 60 R 15 tires. I have run 245 60 R 14 in the past on my 1972 El Camino and 2 1976 Chevelle. I love they way they felt and handled when I owned these cars
I have not looked at pricing on the GT2 tires and it will be awhile before the 70 series need to be replaced. But when I looked at the BFGs it was less than $700.00 for a full set of 60s.
Well he did say in the begining of the thread it was in the sidewall. I am also not sure what size tires he has staggered on the car. Many like the newer Vettes will run smaller size in the front and wider than different rims size in the rear. He may have custom rims or just running different sizes front and rear than can rotate side to side.
Personally I like to run the same size all the way around the car so that they can be rotated front to rear if they patterned for direction each side front to rear or X pattern for even wear all the way around if they do not have a certain direction pattern.
Many years ago I used to mount and balance tires for a living and took pride in how my customers cars would ride. It was almost a science to keep the car running vibe free for over 80 MPH.
I always liked the look of 70s in the front and 60s in the rear.
Don't think I have ever seen a Vette with this setup but have seen many other Classics with this tire setup. Mostly Camaros and Chevelles It gives the Cool looking Street Drag Car look to them.
Running staggered like this does mess with the handling of the car just a little bit because it causes the front not to grip the road as well as the rear end when taking corners. This causes the rear to push the front a little thru sharp corners and make them humm a little. Which is why I like to have the same size all the way around. While I love the way it looks I bought my Vette for touring Colorado Mountain Roads and occasionally really aggressive driving on these roads.
I think you should run 60s all the way around if your ready to replace all four tires.
