It seems like there are a lot of wiring questions on here lately...so I am going to add another.
I have a spade fuse in one of the larger wires coming from the main wiring harness in the engine compartment (the one that connects to the back of the fuse block). This has obviously been modified at some point, and a 30 Amp fuse and fuse holder spliced inline. My question is what is supposed to be there? The fuse blew the other day when turning the high beams on, and the entire car died. Put a new fuse in and the car starts and runs again...but I'm thinking it should be a fuseable link?
My guess is that the previous owner put that in because they couldn't locate the short that kept blowing the fusible link. He just carried spare fuses and could pop in a new one and be back on the road. It sounds like the short is somewhere in the high beam circuit since turning them on blew the fuse.
Where have you found your in line fuse? The forward lamp harness makes up one side of the firewall connector; the engine harness makes up the other side. The two plug together. Fusable links are usually on the engine harness side.
I tried getting a picture this morning, but it didn't come out very well (I will try again with something higher quality than my iPhone). I believe that the wire is coming out of the right side, as you face the harness from the front of the car (the side closest to the drivers side fender). I bought the car in pieces, and re-assembled. I used the harnesses that came with the car, so there is a very good chance there is a short somewhere.
