Default I need seats!

Ok I just got new carpet for my '73 vette and Im dying to rip the old and install the new ..my seats need to be completely replaced as well and the cost is outrageous ...just like the Corbeaus!!

I read on this forum that the '81-82 seats fit perfect and are a good upgrade and perfect fit.. with same brackets?..with no modifications??
(I like that)

Does anyone have pictures of these seats in their '70's vettes and any tips with installation?

Cheers

Replaced or restored? There's a difference.

The frames are rusty and need to be fixed/welded +repainted!
The cost for that service plus seat covers, foam, install kit, repair kit etc.. adds up I've called all the known companies out there..even Carlisle, Pa and the cost is over $1k!!
Do you know any vendor with better prices?

Suit yourself. If you find 80-82 seats, use your seat tracks on the 80-82 shells.

Skip the 81-82 power driver's seat. It will not fit the floor pan of your car.

Last time I talked to him he still had the seats for this car and they were in great shape. You might need to die them depending on your color need. Give this guy a call and see if you can get his seats. The 78-82 seats are cool because they fold flat down and make getting in and out f the back storage area much easier.

Using seats out of an 80 in my 68....picked them up locally and used mounted seat covers from Willcox....used the 68 tracks, had to install a 1" spacer in front between the seat and the track and had to bend the adjusting lever slightly to get it to fit under the front of the seat, otherwise they bolted right in

I like'em, but they're not a one-size-fits-all and may not be comfortable for everyone. My advice would be to check out other seats also....members have installed C4-C5 seats as well as Fiero seats....try sitting in several different types before you buy anything

Hi Cattiva73,

I have the Corbeau GTSII seats in my 77 from Speed Direct. The fit is tight even with the shaved bottom option and the headrest is too big for my liking. If you are even close to 6 foot tall then I would probably consider another option. I installed the seats in my car and now I have aftermarket moon roofs to install which will give me more head room. But, I think if I did it again I would probably go with the Fiero seats or the 79 to 82 seats as they seem to fit better. JMHO.

Wouldn't it be nice to do that to make an informed decision which seats to invest in. Too bad there are very few C3's in my area (that I know of anyway).

Those seats look like a nice option. I'm not too crazy about the original seats, no lateral support at all.

Hi Dirk76, unfortunately I don't have a link to the moonroofs because they are no longer manufactured. The roofs that I got were on a local Kijiji site and they were originally manufactured back in the 70's. I believe around 1977 or so. Below is a photo of what I got. They need to be prepped and painted to match the car but the glass is good and the weatherstrips seem to be okay as well. All the hardware is attached so I think I did alright with this find.

I also like the Corbeaus A4 with shaved base. Im a girl 5.7 tall and I read that the shaved option is a must for a better fit.
Im getting some quotes and compare...:

-OEM c3 refurbished seats
-79-82 seats
-Corbeau A4

decisions decisions...we'll see

If you go with the Corbeau A4 make sure you get the Narrow set. They offer both a wide and narrow version and the wides will not fit. Also had to bolt mine to the floor because with the sliders when you went to tilt them foward they hit the corner of where the t top latches. Fit pretty good and alot more comfortable than the stock ones. Mounting to the floor isn't to bad unless you put alot of stuff behind the seats or someone else drives it.

Keep the stock seats. Decision made without a need for guesswork. No fit problems; no shipping costs; no alterations to floor pans.

Hi Cattiva73,

I think for you the Corbeau A4 or GTS II from Speed Direct would probably work. As mentioned elsewhere on this post pick the narrow A4 if you go with that option.

I am rather a large person at 5'10" and 200lbs. Being that you are a girl at 5'-7", I would expect there will be enough head room and body room for you. As mentioned previously the only area that might cause you a little grief is the headrest height as they do get in the way of the rear vision out the back window. I am going to get my headrests redone to be smaller to block less of my vision. Hope this helps you with your decision.

Thanks

Don

While on this topic I have a question as well. My 69 convertible seat back (the chrome latch in particular) both seats are hitting the hatch and scratching it. With the plan of painting the car in the future I would like to fix the seats from over reclining and causing future damage.

Any thoughts as to what needs to be done with the seat backs?

Also any recommendation on who to buy new leather covers from?

Replace/tweak the seat back bumpers. Might also check the weld nuts in the bottoms where the chrome hinges attach. They can get sloppy with age.

I'm happy with my Fiero seats, better lumbar support (in my opinion) and better side support.
