Hey all, I'm considering doing some LED lighting for the interior and I was wondering how some of you guys went about it. My plan is to get some LED light strips and tap into the footwell lights. Where should I get the strips to make sure they are bright? Also I want to have a way to turn on the interior lights without opening the doors as a way of having a map light functionality while driving the car.
I have a pair of strip lights I bought years ago that I was going to use for under my Jeep while rock crawling. I never installed them and was thinking I could attach them under my soft top hatch. very bright for what you are looking for. However I cant remember where I got them but any of the LED strips should be good.
I was going to run it into the rear convenience light.
I may pull them out of storage this weekend and look into it further. I am sure they are still in the original box and probably have the company I bought them from on it.
twisting the head light *** turns on the int lights.
as far as the lcd, I got nuttin
Really? That's so strange mine has never done that. Only dims the dash lights with the headlights on. Maybe there is some corrosion on the switch.

I'll have to check them out. I went down to autozone and the prices were outrageous for what looking like some flimsy/dim LED strips. I just want something that's going to provide good light. The stock set up is so dim. Also I was wondering if there would be any problems with draw on the battery. I noticed some require a power supply to run?

I think there is a detent on the switch that turns on the interior lights. Mine is non functional at the moment so I cant confirm.
those LEDS are 12V and dont draw much current at all, less than a normal bulb would be my guess. They should wire straight into any circuit with no problem. Assuming the wiring is in good shape to begin with.

If map lights are your objective, have you considered replacing your rear view mirror with one that offers map lights?

I have. It's a mod I've been going back and forth on for a while. I want the functionality but it's my understanding that most of those rear view mirrors are a lot larger than stock. Something about the larger size makes me feel like it would look out of place.

Me too, that is why I asked. I'm still looking for the right replacement. My concern has been their thickness. I also don't want a mirror that will look out of place in the cabin. For me map lights are very convenient. While footwell lighting helps, I don't think they can truly replace the map lights. If I find something, I'll share.

Yea the footwells are just for some better lighting. I am thinking of maybe doing an LED in the dome light or one of those boards with a bunch of LED's on it in addition to the rear view mirror if I can find a nice enough one. At one point I had a 1990 S15 Jimmy and if I recall it had the map lights and was about the same size as the corvette's rear view mirror so this weekend I may go down to the junkyard and see if I can find one.
I pulled the LED's out and found a perfect shelf right up at the front of the top lid. using 3M molding tape this should work perfectly to light things up when the top is down. The OEM was hidden by the top. I can run the wire over and back to the OEM wire.
I tested it and it worked fine just need to finalize the wiring. I try to tak a pic this weekend after dark.
