Default start up smoke

it only happens when its been running and re started..it puts out a puff of smoke...never happens on initial start

Blue smoke? If it is blue, that would be oil smoke. Most common cause is dried up valve guide seals. It happens a lot on these older motors that don't get run much. But usually, when it is the valve guide seals, you get the smoke when you start cold. Re-starting you normally wouldn't see it.

Need to know what color smoke. Blue, Black or white.

its white smoke and only after the engine has warmed

White smoke could also be steam, or it could be tranny fluid, you didn't mention if it is an automatic or not. if you suspect steam then try this, depressurize the cooling system by loosening the radiator cap, bring it up to temp, shut it down and restart, if you don't get smoke / steam then you have a leaking head gasket that slowly adds coolant to one or more cylinders and that would explain why it only does it when it's a warm restart.
Automatic trans could be a modulator allowing fluid into the intake, that is an easy check, just disconnect the modulator vacuum line at the intake and see if there is any trace of fluid in it.
