Anyone have an aftermarket 12inch wheel? I had a camaro once that had a smaller wheel and it actually felt better performance wise while steering. Less travel distance. Been considering one for the Corvette after I put my interior back together.

Here is my Momo Steering wheel. The adapter takes away the ability to telescope.
It is very comfortable and high quality.
Just FYI most any brand of aftermarket wheel will fit with an adapter.

Beware of those $89-$99 wheels I got one (actually 2) from a supporting vendor that the outer ring came loose on. The vendor replaced the first one but after the same thing happened to second one (only on the other side) they decided that it was me and not the wheel and it was safe to drive. It was like driving the car with a rubber hose.

I can't say that all "$99 wheels" are from the same manufacturer. It's always best if you can actually see/feel the item before you buy it. Tough to do if you buy over the internet.

I spotted mine at Rik's Corvette Parts (N.C.), then ordered it some time later when I got the urge. No quality problems with it.

Apparently the vendor that I bought mine from had never had a problem either so they pointed the finger at me. The first one I had no miles on it just in and out of the garage while I worked on the car. The second one less than 30 miles on it. To me it was somewhat of a safety issue but they did not seem to care.

mine is doing the same thing. I'm thinking it's the south Florida heat though I garage the car all the time there are those lunch runs on the water where the car sits in the sun baking away

Mine never even had the chance to get hot the only thing hot about it was me. Its been over a year I tossed the wheel into a parts box and pretty much forgot about it until I read this thread. If you can't tell its starting to tick me off again. Sorry for the rant

Perhaps the vinyl dye, that I used on the leather to recolor it, sealed it up so that heat didn't cause any problems. IDK what the difference might be; could be an entirely different manufacturer using different leather and/or assembly techniques.

The problem was where the rim meets the spokes it had broken loose internally. I would say by the way the vendor treated me that they have not had any other problems other than mine. I would guess that the majority of these wheels out there came from the same vendor as they supply many other vendors with their products.
If I were selling a part that was a major contributor to a cars control and safety I would want to know about a problem before it became a huge problem that's what upset me the most. The problem here has nothing to do with heat or cold or driving conditions it a manufacturing issue. The vendor told me "You just do not like the wheel" the thing is broke your right I don't like it.

So if I understand correctly, the Vega GT wheel in 79 was standard equipment and the three spoke came with the tilt/telescopic column when ordered as an option? Is it possible to change the 4 spoke to a 3 spoke?

Vega wheel was only in the '76, no options for either the '76 or the '79.

Actually Les, I think vettebrothers is correct. According to my '79 option list the 3 spoke only came with T/T, which was an option. The "Vega" wheel would have been standard equipment as would have been the single chrome mirror. I guess we just see more cars with the tilt feature, and sport mirrors for that fact. Rare, but out there.

Ok so that's weird. Car is all original and unmolested so there is no reason to think the wheel was changed. It does not have telescope or tilt column. Was that an option in 79?

guess I should have read before posting. Thanks for the helpful info. Does anyone know if I can replace the 4 spoke with a 3?
Thanks for the advice
