Default smoking windshield wipers...

I just got a 68 L79 and have electrical problems. Do you have any recommendations as the what harness manufacturer is best ? My windshield wipers touched ends together and started arching and smoking and got very hot?? Has anyone else experienced this ?
Thanks Bill

I didn't know that heated windshield wipers was an option in '68.

Hi Bill,
Welcome! New member AND new 69!!!!
The company called Lectric Limited makes reproductions of the 4 harnesses needed for each model year. Front lighting, Engine, Dash, and rear lighting.
The wiring for the wipers is part of the engine and dash harnesses, so it may be good to determine just where your problems are.
Regards,
Alan

the 68 wiper motors are wired different than all other c3 , they have like a always hot wire, there were reports of 68s catching fire from the wiper motor wiring.

I agree with LT-1 Kid, 68 wiper motors are always hot, even with the key off. Really a stupid move by the GM engineer's. Is any other GM car wired like this? Lou.

He says its' a 68. And Yes the 68's wipers are different from all the other years. OP you should check out Wilcox's 68 wiper videos.

Do a search on Wilcox wipers and you should find it. And WELCOME to the 68 club.

Sorry - senior moment! Must have confused the '68 with the L79.

Don't worry RAPHIKI, you are not alone!!! Besides, the L-79 was only available in 68.
It turned into the L-46 in 69. Lou.
