I remember the days when many other Chevy guys were just looking to put the 8 inch corvette rally rims on Chevelles, Novas and many other classic cars just so they could run the 255 60 15 tires or slightly smaller 225 60 15 tires on their cars whether they came with 14 inch wheels or 15 inch wheels most car back in the day would fit this tire configuration.
The 225 60 15's would replace the 14 inch wheels they had from 70 or 75 sized tires on the stock rims while keeping the same diameter ratio.
On my 1972 El Camino I ran 245 60 r 14 tires and wished i had the money back than to replace them with 225 60 R 15 tires and Corvette Rally Wheels they were not in mass production back then like they are today. I would have had to find a set at the junk yard.

There are several trim rings available for the 68-72 cars.
The trim rings installed on the production line were slightly different in construction but not in outer appearance than the ring available as service parts, even during that period.
Those differences are now widely known and are part of 'originality' judging for these cars. For that reason 'production' rings in excellent condition have become very expensive.
4 clips, one located at the valve stem hole.
The clips are mounted to a FLAT inner ring.
There are 2 spot WELDS on the ring at each clip location.
Later production rings have an L shape ring for the clips to mount on.
Later rings have clips held in place with tabs.
Service replacement rings have the 4 clips turned 45 degrees from the valve stem hole.
Restoring rings is difficult because although the rings are stainless steel they were flash chromed too. Very few platers can, or are willing, to do this.
There.... way more than you wanted to know about Corvette Rings. I don't think 68-72 Corvette rings were used on other GM cars.

Alan

Thanks Alan - for the detailed description
I use the flat butt of my hand to give the ring a solid whack directly over each clip location to set the clips.
I use a LARGE flat screwdriver in the center of each clip to remove the rings. I position the screwdriver VERY carefully and turn the screwdriver to raise the clip off the rim.
I use the butt of my hand to set the center caps too, although a rubber mallet will work. I use only my fingers to pry the caps off. It takes a serious pull and strong fingers. My hands may soon be too weak to pull the caps off so I'll have to sell the car.

Alan
It really depends on just what the "close up" condition is.
Is there any curb rash at all?
If you want to send me some pictures as part of a PM I'll give you my thoughts.

I looked at the e-bay link you included. They're pretty rings!!!
If you take a close look you'll see that the clips are attached to the inner band with tabs.
I believe since one of the clips isn't centered on the valve stem hole, and the clips are held on with tabs, those rings are typical of 'over the counter' rings from 80s.

Alan
