Hi M,
I believe back in the 60s and 70s drivers didn't have as much to do while driving as they do now, so they had time, and were willing, to turn their heads to see what/who was over there.
Regards,
Alan
Most chrome mirror cars do not have passenger side morriors. Those were dealer options for specific model years after '73.
The D35 Sport Mirror option provides a pair of painted mirrors.
thanks for the info

I looked at hundreds of C3 pics and I just now knew this !! I was blind ! lol
I googled some other cars pics in the 70s and I noticed they dont have passenger side mirrors , so it wasn't only the corvette !!!
I was born in 1953, and we didnt learn to drive with right hand mirrors...we were taught to give a quick glance back because of the blind spot on the inside mirror....I still have trouble just looking at right hand mirror without a quick glance...

North American car manufacturers went through years of producing cars where the shape and lines was far more important that function and safety. It resulted in some truly beautiful cars that were 'unsafe at any speed' (google Ralph Nader Book). It wasn't until the governments stepped in and began to force standard equipment requirements that we saw seat belts and rearview mirrors become standard and not 'optional'.
Hi GTO,
I believe there was no right side mirror at all for 68-72 cars until a 'service part', (over the counter), right hand mirror, became available in 1973.

Alan

OK. I should admit that my guess was based on availability of RH mirrors & mounting kits I`ve seen on vendor websites & catalogs.
I added one on mine mainly to "balance" the look ... Kinda like a single exhaust...just looks better with two .... Almost useless though...fender blocks a lot of the view....Would really like the "sport mirrors" someday ...

they sell two sizes of mirrors, the larger size is more usefull, probably why they came out with them
While messing with the mirrors, do yourself a favor and ditch that chrome garbage, it's only a matter of time before they start flopping from loose ball joint, and or someone brushing past it in a parking lot, and it's/they outta adjustment.....
do what I did....put a set of late shark shrouded mirrors on it, that way the housing is fixed and the mirror pivots inside it, updates the car, mirror is closer to door, not stuck out there like some cheap junk.....

Can you post a pic or two so we can see how they look on your Corvette? Thanks!

My 75 has a right side mirror and it does balance things and looks nice. But I agree pretty much useless
My 68 has a right mirror, problem being its useless.
68's had the mirror mounted further forward than 69's onwards .
So when you have a right hand mirror, you either mount it symmetrical to the left mirror, which makes it virtually useless, or mount it further back the door, which always looks silly .
I do agree , however it does Balance the car.
And the first question you'll get at a show and shine is " how come you mounted your mirrors differently from side to side, did you stuff up the Measurements" ?
