Had a friend in my 76 for a drive today and the savage slammed my door so hard the inside lock **** popped off. I have the **** and the clip, but the clip is out. Appears in good shape. How do I get the clip installed back in the ****? I can't get the thing in, only about half way. Assume then I just line it up properly on the splined shaft and give it a good tap?
Hi B,
If you look carefully at the ****'s shaft you'll see the clip can only be fully seated when pushed on from one direction.
Once the clip is on the **** you can push it into position on the locking mechanism as you said. If the clip is in the right place you'll hear the **** 'click' as it fully seats.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks Alan. Just to make sure I'm understanding...I want to get the clip installed in the **** first, then install it on the door / shaft for the lock?
Stuck on getting the clip in the **** off the door right now, am going to get a better pair of needle nose pliers tomorrow.
Ok I figured it out, was trying to install the clip incorrectly. Obvious once I clued in. Tapped the **** back onto the lock shaft lightly with a rubber hammer and done. Now onto the glove box plunger. Thanks again.
