Been asking the guys who work here if the date June 6th has any signifigance. Only 2 of the 15 or so had an idea. The young guys had no clue? I spent over twenty years in and still am in awe of those who got through one day
I wonder what the hell they teach kids in school these days..........D-Day is a pretty significant date in the history of the world ,not just the U.S.
and I agree, I am also in awe of the men that went ashore. I would say kids since most were very young, but anybody that did that was a hell of a man.
i posted something about it on my FB page.. same sad results..
My Pops was part of the Canadian Infantry forces that invaded Sicily. The gratest Generation for sure.. we cant forget.
I used to work for a gentlemen that was there. He died on Memorial Day this year he was 92. This day was always a big deal to him. One year (84 I think) he flew back for a reunion.
My 18 year old daughter knows about WW 2 because she used to listen to my fathers stories. I also make sure she knows about it and all other wars and the men that lost their lives.

I am 37 and I know exactly what today is. I know how significant this date is in history and all the great sacrifices that happened this date in 1944. I will celebrate today with an honorary firing of my M1 Garand tonight followed by a cold Yuengling!
It's not forgotten here, there are quite a few memorials in the North of France and the southeren cities of Belgium (Ypres for example)
Hope it compensates a little
