Default Correct tire size

I have a 70 convertible with 225/70/R15 tires on it. Is that the correct size tire that was original to the car when new. if not what is the correct size?

Thanks

F70 x 15 bias - ply nylon cord tires were original equipment.
In today's radial sizing, the replacement is P215/70R15.
Many owners run P225/70R15's because they fill out the wheelwells better and they like that appearance.
When deviating from the original size, some cars will experience rubbing problems, either in the front fender lips or the rear of the front wheelhouse.

Hi djd,
As hipo said the original tires were F70-15.
They were about 27" tall, had a section width of 8.35", and a tread width of 6.25".
Comparing these dimensions to the dimensions of new tires you're considering will give you a good idea of how the new tires will fit and look.
Regards,
Alan

This tire size calculator lets you compare tire sizes and dimensions both numerically and visually.

I run 225/70/15 BFG on my 68 on Rally wheels.
Looks great and fills the well w/o any rubbing issues.

255/60/15 is what I run, and it is a very popular size amongst the C3 Corvette crowd. Nice fat tire with a 27" diameter to fill out those wheel wells. Plus, running the same size on all four corners allows you to rotate. You wouldn't want the original tires that this car came with. Even the largely truck/SUV tires that you buy for these Vettes today are vastly superior to the original nylon units.

This topic is discussed ad-infinitum almost daily, OP. If you want to see what these sizes look like, do a search on the forum. You'll come up with a bunch of hits.
