I can turn the lights on and all of the lights except the head lights will come on, they open up but will not come on. Would like to know what i need to look for to get them to come on? I have looked for an inline fuse and thought that there might be one for the head lights in the fuse box but not in mine. I'm not up on electrical systems so if anyone has had this problem before and could help me with it i would appreciate it.
With me, it was my headlight switch that went bad. I had to drop the steering column a bit, and unscrew the lower dash pad to ease it back to get access to it. Took about 30minutes.
Tanks for the reply. I have looked for the fuse but unable to locate it. I did look at the fuse box but nothing said "head lights" on it, so i figured that it might be and in line fuse. Also the dimmer switch sounds like that is a place to start looking. I have not found the fuse, could you steer me in the right direction ? Thanks again for the help.
Sorry. There is not a fuse in the headlamp circuit. There is a circuit breaker that is built into the headlamp switch, I believe. I don't know if it can be reset, or not.
i was about to post the very same threead. should you find out your issue please let us know! i have determined it not to be the headlight switch and mine may be a possible dimmer issue but i kind of doubt it. mine is a 77 and in the turn signal stalk. and hey if anyone else has any other ideas please post as i just got the 77 on the road today and would love to take a late nite cruise.

FWIW: To my knowledge, there are no inline fuses anywhere on a 68. Do you have the 68 assembly instruction manual (AIM)? My AIM has a wiring diagram in it. I will not be able to check my copy until this evening.
7T1vette is right, breaker in headlight switch resets automatically easy way to check is to pull up carpet at dimmer switch and check for power when you turn on the lights and check if dimmer switch is working. Power from light switch Lt blue wire. Tan & Lt green to headlights.

If you carefully bend back the 4 tabs you can clean and lube your original and reuse. When you reassemble sometimes you have bend in a different place if the retaining edge breaks off.

I've always found it easiest to start at the dimmer switch on the light blue wire. This wire is a direct wire from the headlamp switch.
If you check there and have power the issue is forward in the headlamp harness.. or the dimmer. If you do have power check the outputs on the switch and see if it's transferring.
If you don't have power, like I said above, the feed comes direct from the headlamp switch so I would look there second.
The reason I do it this way is because the dimmer switch is a direct path toward the front and way easier to get to than the headlamp switch.
On my 77 the headlights stopped working and stopped popping up at the same time. If the circuit breaker has been tripped, would that prevent the headlights from popping up?
Gahaegele, When the circuit breaker built into the headlight switch cools off, it automatically resets itself. The headlights are vacuum operated, not electric. However, the headlight switch has the main vacuum valve that operates the pop up headlights. I hope that this helps you out. Lou.
So if not the switch what would cause both to fail at the same time? I have left the car sit over night and the head lights still do not come on. All help is greatly appreciated!
Please help....would a bad switch cause the head lights not to work and the failure of the lights to pop up? I know the pop up is vacuum but how does the switch activate the vacuum?
