Was getting the permanent battery connection for the new radio.
Good advice as usual on here lead me to the Batt connection on the fusebox. Checked it with the meter and sure enough it was a perm live although the fuse next to it had blown. I replaced it and it looked good. Ran a cable from the radio (yellow cable) on the side of the inline fuse via a scotchlok and a spade to the batt terminal. As soon as I connected it it gave me a live at the radio. Happy days
Until per chance I felt heat on the cables in the footwell :/ ?
The cable is a purple one (rear heater blower?) spliced together with a black one that has thermal cover on it. There is no switch for the rear blower and I aint bothered about connecting it up. Do you think I should just chop the cables?
Thanks Scott.
Mock away to your hearts content. Just trying to get an old car running on the road 4000 miles away from the states with limited mechanical knowledge. Sure I'm a Bubba, aint denying it. But trying to be a good Bubba...
So if you aint willing to help out..... We have an old Scottish saying that go's "gerritrightupye and shut yer gub"
C'mon, Young Bill, I'm just pulling your leg! We've all done our share of quicky repairs after finding something outrageously messed up that a PO did. Anyway, I can't tell you much of anything after reading your description and viewing the photo, but here is a link that you may find helpful:
This guy has very detailed wiring diagrams for 'vettes, he sent me one for my '80, and it has been a Godsend!
I've been to Scotland, and I noticed two things right away: The people are super friendly, as long as you behave yourself, and I don't think there's a flat piece of ground in the whole country! BTW, nobody could ever give me a straight answer about why Edinburgh is spelled Edinburgh, but pronounced "Edinburrah". What's up with that?
I know that Scott
I've many a wiring diagram for this old girl. Laminated and stuck on the wall, Haynes. Chiltern and the link.
I cut the cable in two and there ain't no build up of heat. It's the purple that goes to the rear demister but it has a soldered joint under the door sill?
When you guys were building Mopar muscle and corvettes us Scots were putting together Hillman Imps, Hillman Hunters and Talbot Sunbeams.. Have a google and a giggle
Lang may yer sporran squeak and Lang may yer Lum reek my friend
We Americans have always loved big, fast cars, because we have traditional had plenty of wide open spaces to drive them in. I am sure that, up in the Highlands, with those twisty, turny, narrow roads, nimble little cars that handle great, but aren't all that fast, are definitely the thing to have. Or, a corvette, of course!

Hey Young Bill, I was pulled over at the airport for running a stop sign. The same one three times. I went through the circular turn deals at the airport trying to return the rental car. Made three loops around the airport STILL have no idea what she was talking about nor did I see a stop sign.
What The hell do they look like?
Took a little effort to get a hand on the wheel on the wrong side of the car. The street on St. Andrews are way to thin. However I enjoyed the time I spent there. I stayed in several BnBs while I was there.
you can skin the wire without cutting it and splice a new feed wire on.the purple wire is fat and will move more current.hopefully there is more copper inside and it's not just insulation.then you can move down a few inches and skin another for a future connection.there is no end to the fun when it comes to electricity.good luck.
