Default 1972 Corvette Question

I inherited a 72 vette, car has A/C with what looks like a LT1 hood. VIN has a "K" so its not a LT1 - did the base vette come with AC? The car is a mess and my cousin was in the middle of restoring before he passed away... Car doesn't appear to have be in any accidents - just wandering if the guy my cousin got the car from made it a wannabe LT1 - I appreciate any ifo - thx

A/C was available asan option on base 72's if that's what you're asking.

That hood was used on big blocks and lt1's. Since you're vin code is k it was originally a base coupe. Yes these cars came with optional a/c, pb, ps, pw, pl deluxe leather interiors, tilt and telescoping steering wheel. The hood was probably installed because someone ( like myself) simply liked the look.

Thanks for your help - what would it be worth, car has 90K on rebuilt engine and car needs complete restore inside and out - really don't have the room for it anymore and it hasn't been started in years.....

"the car is a mess" is a bad way to start his conversation

Without much more information I'd guess around $3k.

Putting a price on a 72 that is described as mess would be extremely difficult. Pictures would help. If all of the parts are there and are in usable condition, I would think 3k is low. Bumpers alone could bring $500 or more, depending on condition. On the other hand if most of the parts are seriously degraded, maybe 3k is too much. Post some good pictures, but be prepared. You'll get a lot of lowball answers.

Default 72 with a/c

My 72 has the base motor and optional a/c, along with p/s, p/w, t/t steering, p/b and leather seats.

Is the engine code still on the block?

My guess is that if it's a no hit body and is all there it's worth more than 3k. How is the frame and birdcage?

A picture is worth a thousand words. By a mess do you mean a basket case all apart? If so are all the parts there?

Adding the LT-1/BB hood to a base car was a popular owner swap. Lots of folks did it.

Default A/C, LT-1 did exist

I know this was not the question, but the LT-1 did come with A/C.

At the end of the 72 production run Gm made it clear to its dealers that they would allow A/C with the LT-1 option. It was not published in any of the option literature, so if by chance you heard about by word of mouth, you could get it.

I think it was 266, or 217 heard about it and got it.

In today's world an LT-1 , A/C car is very collectible with the LT-1, A/C roadster being one of the most collectible of all.

Only for 1972. AC was not available with the 70 and 71 LT-1s.
