I'll be getting some brake work done by the guys at MSI (hopefully while I'm still enroute stateside, not after!). But once I'm back - they pointed out that my tires are good.. ripe.. old... 10 years (or maybe it was 15?).
Has anyone updated their tires to something more modern, with their stock wheels? I normally get my tires through one of the national brands, due to their road hazard warranties that have always come through for me on other vehicles - but they only have 4 tires available, 2 of which are off-road truck tires?!
I want quiet, safe, and economical tires... to make up for having a pleasant sound LS-4!
Thanks for any inputs, reviews, or warnings (of bad experiences as well!).
Like others have mentioned, there are few tire choices in a 15" wheel. Which is why many including myself have upgraded wheel size. To get into a hi performance tire. But... The bfg radial t/a is still a good tire and Firestone builds the Indy 500 wide oval in a 15" tire. Both are about $600 out the door at the big chain tire retailers.
As already stated, the choices in 15" are very limited now. I talked to a BFG rep just a few weeks ago and some sizes of their 15" tires are not currently in the pipeline. They do production runs of various sizes at intervals and don't always have specific sizes available, so it's hit and miss depending on what size(s) you want. Another option not yet mentioned is the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T Radial. They have a slightly better speed rating. I have those out front and their ET Street Radial out back since I have traction issues. If you don't have traction issues the S/T Radial would be fine for all 4 corners. Sizes are listed here- http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...em=SportsmanST
10 or 15 year tires are not good, ever!they think i'm nuts but you can look into Michelin light truck tires,if still available ,in our size.quality tire that will wear well and take the curves for street use.
That thread and a talk with MT to confirm that the S/T was the better tire (vs. the S/R) convinced me to get the S/Ts. They replaced my outdated Yokohama Avids that had a lot of tread left and they have surprised me with their grip. I had them mounted with blackwalls out- just my preference.
I'm using Goodyear 255/60/15R Eagle GT II's on stock 15" rally wheels on my 1975 convertible. They do not overextend the wheel wells nor do they rub inside the fenders when turning the steering wheel lock to lock.
I think the Goodyear's ride better, are easier to balance and have better grip than the 15" BFG Radial T/A's I've used. That said, I don't think anyone has ever worn out a BFG T/A, they're hard as steel! The GT II's are also not as noisy as the BFG's which matters little as not many C-3's were ever called quiet . Spend a little more and try the Eagles.

Generally, any tire you can buy today is light years better than any tire you could buy when our cars were new.
Buy a name brand. The biggest tire companies have the largest and most experienced product development engineering teams, and they won't put out junk. My personal pet peeve is when I see an otherwise cost-is-no-object car with no name tires.
I just got these BFGs at Costco last month. Ordered them online and had them delivered to my local Costco and then took the vette in to have them installed.
If you want raised white letter tires, there are very few options now days.
