I have a '72 that I am restoring. It has been in climate controlled storage for the last 24 years. My question is why does the steering wheel always feel a little sticky? I have cleaned it a dozen times with Goo Gone and it's OK for a few days and then it gets sticky again. Otherwise, the wheel is in great shape.
Carjack007, The only cure is to purchase the very exact reproduction 69-75 wheel. I bought one to replace my old, used original wheel that got sticky and I will say, of all the reproduction items that I purchased, in the past three years, this one was the closest to OEM. I think that Corvette Central makes them and has the best price on them. And yes, I have a 68 and the original wheel is different. It belongs on the 67 they came from, not in a C-3, killing your right thigh every time that you get in the car. Lou.

Lou, Thanks for the info... That's probably what I'll do. I am amazed at the number of things that "look good" that I am replacing!!

my 75 sat for two years, had same issue. you need to clean the migrating chems off the wheel. I used lacquer thinner. wiped it 4 times with clean rag each time. wipe it with any vinyl treatment like armorall. still nice after a year.
I had a leather cover on the 75 for about 30 years, after the cover was removed the sticky stuff was there also, i had good luck soaking the wheel in WD40 for 2-3 days and them used Goop for a day or so.
Turned out pretty good, removed the sticky and cleaned the wheel up.
I had the same problem with my '73. I contacted forum member Chuck Pelton and let him wrap my wheel with leather. He did a great job and I've been very happy with it.
