Default Front end "bumped" today

My '69 got "tapped" by another car today. Was enough to dent his license plate--don't know yet about my car, but the bumper is certainly closer to the glass than it used to be.

My wife took pictures and I called Haggerty. They said an adjuster would be calling--still waiting to hear from him six hours later. It was public parking and the owner of the other car was nowhere to be found. Strangely, I wasn't told to call a police officer--or does that just happen in the movies?

I haven't had an accident with a Vette since March of 1974 when a delivery van took the front end off another '69 I owned--was not a pretty thing to see.

Has anyone had experience with Haggerty? Does anyone know what I might expect with this issue and what should I be prepared for? Any input would be welcome.

I'd be interested to know as well since that is who I'm insured through. Three days after I started my policy a rock was thrown into the corner of the windshield and cracked it. Called Haggerty and they sent me a check for a replacement no questions asked.

I also heard they were good to work with but had to prod my insurance man to quote a price from them. They still beat my previous carrier--even when they came back with a lower premium offer.

My concern is the unknown nature of the C3 chrome bumper. I've never looked behind them but doubt there is much to cushion an impact of any kind. I was hoping someone might chime in as to what to expect with a chrome C3.

Having dealt with insurance before, they always ask for the police report. It is simply a third party official story of what happened. I would always call the police regardless of what you are told. At the very least you will get a copy of the report to back up your story. Who knows, this person could be filing a claim that you bumped into them and with no police report, who really knows.

I don't know about Arkansas but in Texas police no longer respond to accidents unless there is an injury, a vehicle is incapacitated or a crime is involved. Both parties are supposed to document the accident and report it to their insurance companies.

Parking lot? uh oh, aren't you supposed to be with your car when you have classic car insurance, unless you are at a car show?

When I was a traffic cop (20 years ago) we stopped doing state accident reports on private property unless it involved injury, DUI, or reckless operation or associated with a crime. For a while we did "memos" which were not written reports just called in by phone to a recorder.

My car was stolen from my driveway and they wanted to know why it wasn´t in the garage. They hassled me until I told them I would have my lawyer call them and explain. I got my check.

Well, here's the scoop, at least with Haggerty. They called this a.m. Asked if I phoned the police to which I replied that I asked their rep on the phone at the time of the discovery yesterday who said it was not necessary. Of course, the owner of the car was out shopping somewhere as well. The Haggerty rep instructed me to go on and one of their adjusters would phone.

The rep this morning told me to get an estimate on the damage, send in our photos (which we did take) and submit them via a claim they would email to me.

I think were much confusion comes for us (owners) having classic insurance is not recalling what coverage we have when we first insure our cars. I drive mine (not daily but for enjoyment) from spring to fall and then garage it for winter. I pay more than just "show car" insurance for both my vehicles.

The former officers who chimed in on the forum clarified what my late brother said when he was in law enforcement: "Unless there is injury to persons, the insurance companies usually sort things out--call them to be certain." Haggerty makes a neat key ring card with their 24 toll free number just for that purpose. It worked well, and except for the roaming charge on my cell from Canada (we like to really go when we go) I am expecting a happy ending. If otherwise, I'll be back.
