Default Replace or Repair?

After many years the paint on my 81 is looking pretty old and I’m getting ready to get it painted.

Other than a slight scratch here and there the body is in very good shape. That is except for the front tip of the nose.

Over the years the tip has taken a few light blows. The paint on this tip has very heavy spidering but the shape is fine.

This whole front is made of polyurethane and I was told by the painter he can repair it.

Should I replace it or can it be repaired like the painter say’s he can?

Thanks

Is there actual damage of just the paint spiders?

If actual damage, I do not know if the urethane can be repaired that will last...others will have to chime-in on that.

Since I am in the process of removing the paint off of my '81; are you going to be doing any of the prep work yourself? Is it only the original color, no repaint layer?

If you do replace the bumper cover, you could get a fiberglass one and then have the seam filled-in....very nice clean look. But then you would need to replace the rear cover and as well.

I am doing all the prep work myself; have front and rear covers off and paint removed down to the yellow urethene. If you need any pictures, let me know.

I am taking the body down to the fiberglass for the repaint as I am changing colors. Lots and lots of work done...and lots and lots of work yet to be done before it is ready for the paint shop.

My advice is to keep the original bumper cover as long as you can.

I don't see any actual damage to the bumper cover. All I see is Shark Nose. It happens.

Repair that sucker. Lots of legs left in it to my eye. My default is to always try hang on to original parts except where it's not possible or really not worth it.

Looks like two layers of paint, but there is no damage there.

So are you going to strip all the paint off?? Going to keep the same color? What are your thoughts?
