Default Question about values

Hey everyone, I'm new here. Just stopping by to see if I can get some advice. I really like Vettes and have owned a few of them over the past 6 years. I am either one lucky guy or sellers are desperate because I bought two 78 silver anniversarys one for $4000 and one for $5000. Sold them both for $12,500. Now I have a chance to buy a 1975 stingray numbers matching very nice condition for $6500. I see these go for around $12-15k in this condition. Just wondering if my luck ran out on the last two and should be cautious on this one and if there's anything I should be aware of on that car. I intend to drive it this summer and flip it in the spring. Even if I had to drop a motor in it, it still seems like $6500 is a steal.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or things I should be cautious of here.

Thanks!

If you see '75s go for $15k you must live in a very expensive neighborhood. They arent coupes, are they?

Did each '78 sell for $12,500 or was that the total? With regards to the '75, check this site, ebay, craigslist, etc... to see what everyone else is listing it for. Good luck.

They had T-tops like the one I am looking at.

Friend of mine buys and sells all over the country so he has been keeping me up to date on some of the selling prices and options. $6500 seems pretty low to us and I am worried about a lemon. He did agree to a full inspection at my expense.

Does $6500 seem like a good price or is that ball park? Probably too hard to tell without seeing it of course, but was just wondering if this seemed a bit too good to be true like my other two finds!!

Thanks!

I got $12,500 for each car. Asked $14. Sold them both within a week. I have seen prices on the SAs all over the board too...

If you're buying for $5K or less and selling for $12K or so, you're already beyond my level of expertise.

Good luck.

$15,000 is pretty steep for a '75 coupe. It better have good options (L82, 4-speed, AC?) and must be mechanically sound and a good paint job.

But, all it takes is one person who'll pay the price.

You must be the "Silver-tounged devil" that I keep hearing about. You know, the one that can sell ice to Eskimos?

I'd suggest that you continue this "process" to determine whether you were LUCKY on those first two C3's....or whether you just have a great knack for buying low and selling high. If you have the same level of success with the next 2 or 3 Corvettes, I would like to invest in your "100% Profit" enterprise--because you really have your MoJo workin' !!!!

Yeah, I am sure I was just plain lucky there. My luck usually sucks hence my hesitation on this 75! I bought both those 78s from a divorce situation. Right place at right time I guess. I am far from an expert that's for sure. Sold both vettes to a doc and a dentist. Pure luck.

You must have a silver cloud over your head.

Anyone with even elementary knowledge of the C3 knows that the smog cars are almost worthless.

Any 75-81 around here goes for 7,000 in primo condition tops. And I mean primo. Typically, any 383 powered 75-81, in good shape inside and out without smog crap and all gauges working goes for 10,000 up.

The 75 is the dog of the bunch. A real bow wowwer. 160 hp POS. The only redeeming value for a collector is that it is the last points car. I wouldn't give 4000 for one stock.

I paid 5000 for my 81 a couple years ago, and it was primo. Of course, I trashed all the junk and now it is a 12,000 car.

The beauty of the smog cars is that they are totally customizable. They have no real collector or restoration value. Same with the mid 80's cars.

Folks that don't know tend to leap because after all....."it's a Corvette!!" A 454 early 70's vette is in no shape or form the same car as a 75 bow wowwer.

Whoa! Geesh, I thought the 12,5 was a decent deal! I was thinking these buyers knew something I didn't. I sure appreciate the feedback on the 75. I am leary of it now. It is in great condition, but hmmmm, I don't want to get stuck with a POS! It is an automatic too which I really don't want. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks man!

You're entitled to your opinion, but I have more than elementary knowledge and I have a nice 80 L-82 which does not meet the description you outlined.

Take it with a grain of salt. There is nothing wrong with a nice 75, and a nice 75 convertible is nicer still.

Thanks. I know there are lots of opinions out there. It really gets down to what a person is willing to pay and if they want the car enough. I just don't have enough vette knowledge so was looking to hear what others had to say. I personally think all the C3s are cool. Just my opinion!

I'm always intrigued when someone says a '75 L-48 isn't worth 'poop' because of the "smog" engine, but a 71-73 is worth so much more because it doesn't have a CAT or smog pump.

Buy the '75, cut the CAT off, remove the smog pump and put a decent heads and cam in the engine. That'll beat the snot out of any '71-73 and still won't cost as much.

A SBC engine in '75 is still an SBC engine. Change a couple of components (which are readily available and very affordable) and you no longer have a POS engine.

So why does that change the overall value of the car so much????

Be careful if the advice that you get. Both of these statements are 100% wrong.
