Just got back from a evening run to Sonic (still 92 degrees at 8:00 pm here...) ran across another 1980 which is a fairly rare occurrence in my smaller city. We both pulled over to talk. The guy has owned his '80 since he bought it new 33 years ago!!!
I know there are a few original owners here on the forum. (I recall a great "then and now" photo thread a while back.) I think the idea of holding on to a Vette from day one is pretty damn cool.
Hi,
Pretty COOL in April of 1971.... not quite so cool now!
Regards,
Alan
Awesome! You even held onto the original license plate!
I'm guessing you didn't hold onto it knowing that you would eventually be able to put it back on? What was it like after all those years, to put them back on?
Not as early as Alan 71, but ordered mine in August of 72 and received December of 72.
Of course I have had to recondition mine because of my stupidity.
I haven't owned any car longer than 4 years - really nice, well-pampered, low mileage, daily drivers. I grew tired of them no matter how nice they were. I guess that's because I didn't own my first Vette until I was 48. For Alan, Mod75, Ironcross, et al, when you bought your Corvettes, were they intended to be daily drivers, or was there a master plan to keep them forever?
Picked up a copy of Vette Vues and saw the L88 hood and Zl1 fender flares on the gold Ecklers car on the cover.
Had to get one, DD for 1 year, went to a local body shop and said i would work for him for free for a month if he would show/help me install the flares and do a paint job.
Hi
I'm afraid the plates are metal reproductions. I kept the original registration card, (and the transfer from my 68 GTO), but not the plates. I think they stayed hung on the wall of the garage I rented back then to keep the car in.
The car was my daily driver for about a year and a half. I put about 35,000 miles on it during that time and then about 10,000 more in the next 40 years. I didn't buy it with keeping it in mind, in was just another car in in a string of cars that car guys bought back then.
Regards,
Alan

I bought ours to use daily. My wife and I used it for our only car (I had a truck that I used in my work).
It was driven daily until about Dec. of 78 when my wife got a new car. We still used it when we were home until about 92.
