By AUX fan are you asking if the radiator/condenser used an electric fan and not a clutching fan?
I can't knowledgeably answer your question but I would guess that a '78 still used an engine mounted clutch fan. I don't think thermostatic electric radiator/condenser fans arrived until the C4 Corvettes made there debut. We'll soon know
