is this normal?
I replaced my courtesy light switch the one that was there never worked.
After I replaced the switch everything was fine key warning buzzer worked and courtesy lights.my battery was dead the other day so, I disconnected the negative battery cable and hooked a test light to it. when I touch the prob part of the test light to the battery neg terminal the test light comes on with the door open. if I press the courtesy light switch the test light goes out. I don’t think this is normal.
If I understand correctly, the test light is connected between the neg cable and neg terminal. If the light is on with the door open it is because the current path flows from the pos batt terminal to the light door light switch, through the interior bulbs, to the chassis, through the neg cable and through the test bulb and back to the battery. Test bulb lights up. With the door closed, press the cig lighter momentarily or blow the horn and you should get the same results.
If you have the test light hooked up as you describe, the doors closed (no lights on), and key out of the switch, and clock fuse pulled, the test light should not be on. If you have an aftermarket radio you need to pull the fuse for that too as it probably has a memory keep alive. If the test light is off there is no drain. If the test light is on you need to track down where the drain is.
