Hi I am from the C2 forum and need some help. I am looking at a C2car that suppose to has a 1970 Corvette engine in it. I was given the following numbers: 8970010

I think that means Aug 9, 70 does the 010 mean anything? Do I need the number on the stamp pad to see what the motor came out of and the hp, etc?

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,
The number you list is the engine block's casting number. There were a zillion blocks with this casting number since they were used in many, many, vehicles.
The casting date would be located on the other side of the engine's rear flange than this number was found.
The information on the engine stamp pad in front of the right-side head will tell when the engine was assembled, how it was configured, and what the vehicle's vin it went into originally is/was.
Regards,
Alan

3970010 was the block number for most of the 350ci blocks from 1970 thru 1980. You are going to need a lot more in the way of numbers to figure out where it came from

Here is some info...this shorter front pad, started in the mid 70s or so, this will give you the VIN and other codes...

Here is some other info on identifying your motor

Yes. There are two numbers stamped on the pad. One will be a VIN derivitive; the second will include the suffix code identifying the engine. With the suffix code, you can probably find the engine on the internet.

Not sure if I will do anything yet. Just wanting to get some peoples experiences with this system. Since the shocks are adjustable it may be better than a stock C2 system ride wise.

The ride isn't likely to be any different, than a 63-67. The frame and suspension is virtually identical, on all 63-82 Corvettes. Over the years, there were some minor changes to suspension tuning, body mounts, etc., but the ride and handling characteristics remained pretty much the same.

A 70 with adjustable shocks, isn't going to ride much different than your mid-year.
