Default Help with my t tops

Does anyone know if the t tops from a 1968 corvette fit an 81 corvette? If not is there any modifications I can do to the latches from the 1968 t tops to fit the 81 corvette?

No I do not think they will not fit because from 1978 till 1982 they used a different style T-Top. If I remember right when I was shopping for Corvettes this spring the later models only have one clamp lever to hold them down where as the 1968 thru 1977 have two clamps to hold the T-Tops in place.

But you can buy aftermarket T-Tops for all models that will fit all of them but they are not cheap.

Seems like I recall reading about a modification that would allow the exchange once. However, the cost and labor involved makes it much easier and cheaper just to locate an original style set of tops.

No clear advantage to making the swap either. They look the same visually and the only operator difference is the one handle vs two.

No.

The answer is to modify the car with the 68-77 rear hardware.

The question is why use the older tops on the 81?

Because I have the glass mirror t tops on my 81 and my friend is willing to give me fiberglass ones from his 68 that he sold awhile back and I want to modify the t top so they fit the 81

I concur. Change the rear mounting plates.

You can't have both. If you change the hardware to run the 68 tops, you cannot mount your glass tops.

Thank your friend, but you want a set of stock 78-82 fiberglass tops. That gives you the choice of painted or glass without making hardware changes.

Take them from him with thanks and sell or trade them for the ones you need. No need to modify your 81.
