I have a question my fellow vette lovers. I'm going to be repairing a crack right above the rear passenger tire. What type of resin would you suggest? brands etc. thanks for anything!

use epoxy, not polyester. auto body or marine supply stores will have small (pint) containers.

I used the west systems epoxy. Stuff is very good. I've repaired my boat and my corvette with it. Go to their website for some great tips and links to YouTube vids.

Hang on a minute.... Doesn't it depend on the year of the car as to whether epoxy is preferred to polyester resin? Or am I imagining things, which has been known to happen.....

What I was told was at some point gm switched to smc, for smc you need epoxy or polyester that is made for smc, regular resin wont stick to it.
Dont remember the year, prir to 74,the pertinent year in my build

that's why epoxy is used- it bonds to anything that is clean and slightly roughened.

71 was the first year for SMC, and it was only used for the rear quarter panels. After '71 SMC was used more and more until the whole body was SMC a few years later.

On the early SMC you can use either polyester resin with SMC additives or epoxy resin. On late C3s the SMC formulation changed and only epoxy resin should be used.
