I am thinking about buying and installing an aluminum intake manifold on my 77. I am wondering if these intake manifolds will raise the height of my carb and breather and cause issues with clearance of the hood? Thanks

The only significant benefit of changing the intake manifold to aluminum is for weight reduction. And that will mean very little, compared to the cost and trouble to make that swap.
Thanks for the input guys. The reason I was thinking about it was for appearance more than anything. I am working to clean up my engine bay and have removed the carb, valve covers and coolant hoses etc., with the thoughts of cleaning up the original intake and putting on a fresh coat of GM blue paint. A buddy of mine suggested that since I have everything out of the way, I might think about putting on an aluminum intake to spruce the looks up a bit.
As I have replaced things, I have replaced them with chrome i.e., water pump, thermostate cover.neck, alternator etc. Most likely I will just stick with my original plan and get the original cleaned up and put on the fresh coat of paint. I think just by cleaning it up and painting it will be a vast improvement on the looks.
If you're using the stock air cleaner, I'm not sure how a smaller filter element would help, on the 77 anyhow. The 75 looks like a smaller filter element would do the trick.
Also, I'm using the ZZ4 intake on my setup - they come straight from GM and are a different casting from the Edelbrock 3701, although similar in feature. I find it fits the stock accessories a lot better than the Edelbrock did or the Weiand 7525 I have in spare.
PN is 10185063. It's probably the closest thing you'll find to an L-82 aluminum intake as a new factory part.
I run an Edelbrock Performer EPS with a Holley 4160 (80457s). Carb sits on a taller gasket to provide access for the PCV hose. I have no clearance issues with a drop base air cleaner.

Not worth it on a stock motor. If you're planning on doing heads, cam sure.
The amount of hp they might give a stock engine would be within the dyno machine's error range.
I agree totally on a stock motor you aren't going to see anything you need a complete package, heads, cam, carb, headers etc. I picked up an extra Edelbrock Performer for my 66 El Camino from e bay for 85 bucks and it looks like new.
