My kick-down cable does not appear to be working properly, so I am going to make an attempt at adjustiing it and/or insure it is connected properly.
Now I have to tell you that the car was converted from a stick to an automatic transmission at some point in its life prior to my taking ownership (no, I don't know why anyone would do that). I bought the car as an automatic, so I am moving on from this point and trying to make it run as it should with that configuration.
The connection at the carb is loose, and I have not been under the car yet to look at whatever may, or may not, be under there. I am just wondering just how this works and what adjustments I would make and where. The connection at the carbis about a third of the way down the groove in the kickdown connector there with the car idling.
That is about the correct adjustment for that cable. All it does is pull when you get close to WOT and force a downshift. Too tight, and the downshift will be before the engine has a chance to start gaining RPM, too loose and it won't drop a gear when it needs too. It's easy to move the adjustment to tailor the shift point to your liking.
Like I said, the car did not come out of the factory as an automatic. I believe it has a TH-350 in it now. That is part of the reason I am struggling a bit with this car...there are several things that are unknown quantities and pieced together...and not necessarily correctly.
I will come to grips with this car eventually, and get all the bugs worked out, but I can definitely identify with the poster that talked about not trusting his car.
