Here is the AIM page.. but to my knowledge it was never approved. Easy way to find out would be to pull the speedo tach cluster. This is not a hard job and if you need help with that go to my site and look at the instructions for installing the 78-82 dash pad.

So , we can safely say the timer was never put behind the tach and speedo . I am going to try to reach up a little higher and see if I can gain access .

I have all the bulbs out and let the car sit overnight and the battery did not drain so that's a plus . Started right up . When I removed the fuse the power antenna did not work .
Mine was just kinda dangling down behind glovebox, looks like it was taped at one time. Maybe try pulling that insulation out and looking behind it?

I will tonight . I will keep everyone updated . If I don't get to the bottom of it by tomorrow , I have an appt. with a mechanic that works on older vehicle . He comes highly recommended .

Well.... No..

I can safely say I've never seen one back there.

When you look behind the box for it, make sure you look for the orange wire, it should be there and if the timer is missing, then you'll find it with a few other wires and a white connector.

If you don't find it there.. I'd venture behind the tach speedo housing. Its very easy to pull this out of the car.

Willcox.

Default Ever Find it?

hello,
wondering if you ever found it. We are in the same situation. My son just inherited a 1978 Corvette and it’s in really good condition. Just needs new carpet and very minor things. The courtesy/dome lights don’t turn off once we turn off the switch and the car. When the car is on and doors open they turn on, doors close, they turn off. Looked for the timer delay box behind the glove box as I thought perhaps the circuit board was bad but it’s not there. I removed the air ducky and looked everywhere for it from underneath the glove box and from above the glove box with the glove box removed. Don’t see it anywhere. Currently he just uses a battery shutoff switch to kill the battery power so it doesn’t eat up the battery which is what the previous owner was doing. We really want to get this resolved but completely clueless since the timer delay box appears to have been removed. Previous owner passed away so it’s not like we can ask him what he knows about it.

Let me know if you ever found it or if you ever resolved it. If anyone else has any suggestions to point us in the right direction we’d really appreciate the help. thank you.

WTF , I'm miffed . It looked so easy in the pics someone posted for me . This is typical for the way things go for me . I also took out the air duct on the passenger side .

Default That’s how mine looks.

I still can’t find mine where everyone says it is.

Above posts are accurate, early '78s have the timer behind the speedometer/tachometer and later ones have it on the passenger side behind glove box. If you were searching for a replacement main wiring harness you would see 2 options, early and late, and the difference between the 2 is exactly this, the timer location! Pull your gauge cluster out, you'll find it! Good luck😘
