mid year hoods
Is it me or are all the factory hoods poor quality? I had the 77 and now the 78 and both factory hoods are very wavy. I am doing the body work and after I block sanded the hood especially on the cowl it is very distorted (un even) I have filled and sanded and its getting better but I was wondering is this normal or what?

Might be you.
Are your hoods stock? One of the qualities of SMC is it's ability to produce a very smooth surface. I did not have any surface problems with the hood on my 80.

The hood on the 79 I'm currently doing is very wavey on the cowl area.

this is my point, the cowl is wavy, looked good when it was white but after sanding and applying primer you can see the waves.
filled and blocked and filled and blocked its better but not done yet

I thought a midyear hood would be from a 63-67 vette

What does "mid year hoods" have to do with 77-78 Corvettes?

Hi,
I guess I'm REALLY old!!!!
I'd say we're talking about 'late model' hoods.
Do people remember when that's what we called them?
Regards,
Alan

The hood on our '77 is the same way - took a bunch of blocking in the cowl area to get it right.
