Hi,
It'll be interesting to hear your report from your visit to see the car.
MY thoughts....IF I was going to do ALL the things to a car that THAT car needs, AND HAD A CHOICE BECAUSE I DIDN'T OWN IT YET, I'd look for and put my $$ and hard work into a 71-72.Again, just MY thoughts.
Regards,
Alan
Just because a car is readily available isn't always a good enough reason to get 'involved' with it.
Take your time and really think this thing over because that '73 needs a ton of work.

After going to look at the 73, I may make the trade, runs really nice. The interior isn't as bad as the pix looked. Most things work. No cancer rust I could find without putting it on a lift. I forgot to mention, the price is $6000 for it and I will sell mine for $7800 to give me some working capital to fix a few things. I haven't completely made up my mind but it was worth a $100 for him to hold it for me for 30 days to really decide. Around here, $6000 would go quick.
It is the original engine and appears other than the valve covers everything else is as well. I took another forum member with me to have 2 sets of eyes.
I say do it! Even though some people will say the 73 isnt a true chrome bumper car (I consider it to be as such) it will always always be worth more than your 78 in the long run. If you do trade, be sure to send me some pics too! Oh and another build thread!

Will do! Kind of weird someone to say its not a true chrome bumper car (hahaha) I am sure on the GM docs it says chrome rear bumper. Haha.
73 Has always been one of my favorite year C3's. I do know if this is what you want, it will be done right. Just keep the pics on the new rebuild coming, it always makes for great reading and inspiration.

In the condition that is presented by the '73, it's about a $5000 car. Interior is shot, paint wrong and poor, don't know about the mechanical aspects of the car.

What do you think yours is worth?
I have mine posted on CL for $8200 but on here for $7600. What are your thoughts?

Thanks Bill! It's the best of both worlds for me because I like the front rubber and rear chrome.
If I get it done, I will have the money to get a good jump on the restoration at least to the point of enjoying driving it and there will defiantly be a second rebuild thread! I hope you weigh in on that thread!
a lot depends on what you want to do with the car .sell to make money or to fix up and drive .the 73 will hold its value better ,but the 78 maybe cheaper to fix up.if the 73 was a big block ,4 speed vert it would be a easy choice .my vote is stay with what you have or sell what you have for cash ,then go buy exactly what you want.

Thanks for your thoughts!! I would love to go buy exactly what I want but that may take some time. Hahaha I like the "73 will hold value better" I would plan to do some frame on restoration and either keep and drive for many years or resale and continue to work my way to buying a 68-72 Vert but can never imagine having 15-25k cash to buy one and my wife is not going to let me go get a loan! Haha
In the mean time if I can help save a couple of these cars and make sure they don't get bought torn apart and sent to the crusher because some one got in over their head, that's a good thing!
I can never see my particular 78 actually being worth enough to move forward towards that goal but it would be a great daily driver for someone.
What say you?
All we have done is supplied you with things to consider in making your decision. But, it is your decision, and whichever way you decide, "Good Luck" to you.

To everyone who has ever posted on one of my threads, I salute you! Heck a year ago I had no idea how to do anything.

Scott, if you're at all like me you enjoy fixing these old crates as much as driving them. It would seem so, because you didn't drive your '78 for very long after you fixed it! Whatever you decide on, you're a smart guy and that '73 will definitely benefit from being in your custody. If you keep this up long enough you should be leveraging yourself into a '69 tri-power 427 in a couple years! May the force be with you-live long and prosper!

Dave, you know this was all new to me last year and you are right, I love working on it as much as driving it. When I bought the 78 I was under the understanding it was a numbers matching car and once delivered it wasn't. I think the PO knew any different either I truly believe he thought the same thing.
I have always wanted an original car and if I do this, I will have one as far as we could tell looking at it the other day.
I also have become way more proficient at working on these cars and if funds work out could see an even quicker restoration than the 78.
I didn't care for the chrome bumper cars at first ( prob just never saw one when I was a kid) but now I find myself drooling over them and I love the rubber bumpers too so the 73 is a great combo in my opinion.
If you will remember I also like the dark blue colors and was going to paint the 78 dark blue but changed my mind at the last minute. The 73 is an original dark blue metallic paint code. Score there! In all if I do make the trade, I will love this car even more than the 78 but will never forget where I cut my teeth... A guy looked at it today ( made me sad) and said it was the cleanest c3 he had looked at in the price range and made me an offer. I countered and will see where we end up tomorrow. Thanks
