Default Rear end question

Just starting on my Corvette project - 1968 basket case. Literally have parts in bushel baskets. Took body off frame. Casting number on rear end is 3899143. The numbers stamped on the bottom by the spring hanger is 2 AT. I have checked a page but looking for confirmation that this would be a 3:08 rear end for a 427 engine. True or false?

Hi,
The info I have indicates the 'AT' broadcast code was for the heavy duty 3.08 ratio differential used for bb cars.
So I guess... 'true'.
A date code would BEGIN to determine if this COULD BE the differential this car left St.Louis with.
Regards,
Alan

Thank you Alan. This is NOT the vehicle it left the factory with, of that I am sure. My Dad bought it for $300 about 20 years ago at a swap meet. Is the AT code fitting with 68? It is not a numbers matching car, but Dad was trying to get things at least close.
