Default windshield wiper switch

can anyone help?winshield wipers worked fine before I then changed my dash lights and reinstalled everything now the wipers just go up about two inches then go back down.I noticed the plug will go on the switch both ways.Did I mess the switch up by putting it on backwards? bythe way it is a 74 stingray,

If the motor was spinning the wrong way it is possible that the wiper linkage is now binding and may cause other damage to the wiper motor. Switch the power lead and see if they work properly. If not it may have damaged the moving parts in the wiper motor.

Hope is not the wiper motor damaged.

The connector should only go on fully one way. If you look at the picture below you'll see the switch which has a bump on the left side... the connector has a shoulder on the right side... the shoulder is supposed to prevent the connector from going on all the way if installed wrong... Problem is.... it will still allow you to put the connector on, it just won't go all the way on.

I don't know if you messed anything up.. but you can test the motor function by following my test video.... You don't have to have the motor on a bench to do this, you can remove the nut from the bellcrank on the back and then run your own wires.

Start by disconnecting all wires from the wiper motor... including the ground.

Then run a power wire from the alternator to the middle connector terminal on the 123 plug. Run a ground from the motor case to the engine. Run a ground from the engine to the number 3 terminal. You should have high speed.. Jump from 3 to 1 and you get low... Remove grounds 1 and 3 and the motor should park.... If it pass's this test then you have a problem somewhere else.
